I haven't taken the train in a few months but I am again this Saturday, I just noticed now that the train takes 1 hour instead of 30-40 minutes. Having flicked through the timetable, it seems that this is exclusive to the weekends. However, if I am not mistaken, this journey would usually take 30 minutes, even on weekends. Has there been a timetabling change recently?

Don't know details, but would assume it is routed via Chertsey and the Windsor side due to engineering works on the main line North of Weybridge. That would account for the hour or so journey time.

Engineering works are affecting trains through Woking at weekends, currently. I assume this impacts Guildford

A quick look on Realtime Trains, shows the Portsmout to London services will take a more circuitous route - as per post #2 - this weekend. I've attached an example.
Thanks all. Kinda fun tbh, never been on those lines.
Do you know where I can find more info on those engineering works?

On most recent weekends, trains from the Portsmouth Direct through Guildford have been diverted on to the New Line via Effingham Junction, with an extra stop at Surbiton. However, per posts above, this weekend's works are evidently nearer to London.

The 'delights' of the Tour De Staines, reduced frequency meaning the trains which do run can get quite busy as they trundle along caught behind a stopper.

Probably just as quick taking a stopper towards Epsom to change for Southern.

Wimbledon is closed saturday and sunday this coming weekend just as was last weekend. some mainline services divert via chertsey/staines, others terminate short of woking.
