Pretty dire today on the Western in terms of cancelled trains due to no traincrew (who was it who said on here the work to rule was having little impact??)
Its now got so bad the Plymouth Argyle team travelling up to London are being forced to stand as their booked seats where on the previous train that was cancelled! Not good, not good at all!!!!

Will it change anything though? Plymouth Argyle will travel by coach next time. More revenue that the railway loses.

SWR are also declaring major disruption on their website as well. It seems that there will be extra cancellations even though they are already running a reduced service:

What's going on

Due to industrial action fewer trains are able to run on all lines. Train services running across the whole South Western Railway network may be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 12/08/23.
What We're Doing About It
Due to a shortage of drivers and guards tomorrow, a further-reduced timetable will be put in place overnight and you are advised to double check your entire journey before travelling. Short-notice cancellations are also possible across the whole of the SWR network as a result.

A reduced timetable is already operating across the SWR network due to industrial action by the ASLEF union, with members taking action short of a strike.

If you are travelling to events on our network, including the England v Wales rugby fixture at Twickenham, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup event at Ascot and the Boomtown festival in Winchester, you are advised to allow extra time to complete your journey.

Because of a shortage of drivers and guards, we also have fewer trains running between Basingstoke and Exeter later today.

To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:

Great Western Railway between Exeter and London Paddington via any reasonable route

Due to disruption on this route, passengers are authorised to book their own taxi to travel between Basingstoke and Exeter.

In order to claim a refund you will need to provide:

- Your full contact details

- Proof of a valid ticket

- Receipt for the taxi

Please email these details to [email protected]

For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.

The service is alraedy hacked bac this week to hourly on many routes. SWR and other operators need to rehash their timetables to match establishment as soon as practical as this work to rule/strike action isn't going away unless the members pull back and from ASLEF results thats clearly not going to happen anytime soon.

With Boardmasters on as well it must be hell on earth today with the cancellations and having to catch smaller connections and later trains. I see a couple of Penzance journeys and the Newquay to Paddington were Cancelled after and before Plymouth.

Just as well the weather is bad every weekend as the day trippers would not be travelling.
