Very much in keeping with the will they/won’t they success of the GWR 769’s I’m reporting that on Monday 26/7 I witnessed a 769 on diesel power departing Reading around 9.15 from the far platform heading east presumably to use the underpass beneath the GWML to get on the Reading-Wokingham lines. Do we know if this test run was a success?

Believe the Monday morning one only made it to Wokingham then had to come back home.

Yeah I've seen that.
I was more seeking clarity with regards to what was on each of those workings yesterday. 928 on the Burton to Reading and 769??? on the Reading to Eastleigh?
Have they finished test running on the North Downs Line? If so, when's the latest expected date for them running in service there?

It doesn't appear that test running on the North Downs Line has finished. There are paths in place for tomorrow.

It was suggested elsewhere that traincrew training won't start before September.

Seems unlikely they would be in service until close to the end of the year - Autumn is not a good season on the North Downs Line in any case so it might be advantageous to wait until December before introducing them there.

It certainly seems like progress is now running later than one year relative to the schedule in the Direct Award document, which saw the introduction being from September 2020 (and obviously later than February 2019 first indicated).

It’s not test running it is mileage accumulation

Each unit needs to do a bunch of miles before it is accepted into the GWR fleet

Driver training likely won’t start until after the summer

Thanks for that. I think I'll make that trip along the North Downs line as soon as my Senior Railcard arrives just to get out for a day.
