Morning Guys and Girls.

I applied for the Southern 'Trainee' position in Brighton. But got the email I did not want to get.

'Not met the required standard', and I have to wait 6 months before I can apply again.

Do I really have to wait 6 months? Seems a long time?

Plus does anyone have any advice on what they are looking for on the application form?

Thanks
Dan

I have just had the same reply for both roles based in Central London and yet when I applied last year for the trainee train driver role I got through to the driver manager interview. Southern don't appear to be transparent when advertising positions but all you can do is try again. Have a look at the replies to the questions you answered and see if you can improve them. The forum is full of useful info so do some research on here but don't loose hope:)

Hi Arthur, did you recently attend the Assessment Centre? I recently had my Driver Manager Interview off the back of an application submitted last year; and I too have just received an email saying 'Unsuccessful' for the two London based posts like yourself.

I got one of those earlier in the week. I'm not phased by it in any way. ill adjust as necessary and keep applying until I eventually get there.

I wouldn't worry too much as yes it is six months before you can apply again but that is only with southern, you can apply to all the other toc's if that's what you wanted to do but with southern you will have to wait until January.

Unlucky guys, don't lose faith and keep at it.

I assume this new testing comes into effect in January then, otherwise yes you will have to wait 6 months if you have sat them

Honest answers, it is a fact that at least 50% of the applications forms are not correctly filled in with bits missing.

Ignore Southern... they have there own rules that do not apply at other companies. They do not apply at any other TOC.

Actually South West Trains also have this 6 month waiting policy if you fail shortlisting, assessments or interview, you can however apply for vacancies of OTHER grades to the one you had previously applied for during those 6 months.

Correct, but the six month waits they impose do not prevent people applying for other operators which their literature seemed to suggest.

First bar you say for instance apply for a trainee driver, which you fail shortlisting you cannot apply for the same grade ie trainee driver for 6 months although you can apply for other roles including a depot driver.
