I hold an annual season ticket between Hamilton West and Glasgow Central but have always wondered if it is valid via Motherwell.

During disruption I have gone round the Circle 'the wrong way' and felt this was justified. Is my thinking correct in this instance, and would it be valid during normal operation. Also, would I be allowed to use it as a HNW to MTH ticket with having no intention of travelling to GLC?

Strictly speaking yes. A ticket is always valid on a through train, and season tickets are always valid for break of journey and intermediate journeys.

In practice you may find a guard taking a dim view of it.

Yes, but only if you're travelling on trains advertised as through HNW-GLC services both to and from Motherwell.

Which services are advertised as through trains to GLC via MTH? Looking at the LDB now, none show up. Certainly when I lived in Herne Hill, all southbound Thameslink loop services were advertised as either Wimbledon or Sutton, so you wouldn't be able to travel further than this.

Thanks for all the responses. As far as I can see, the through trains are indicated by footnotes in ScotRail's South Clyde timetable.

As some trains run via Bellshill and Uddingston then this gives me travel to these stations, should I ever feel the need. Quite a strange situation.

I think its also valid via Kings Park and Queens Park, but not via Kings Park and Shawlands, as per the 3 mile rule.
