Since I've not found any threads on the amazing material that TN offloaded onto youtube, and since there's over 20k of videos on there already, I thought that it might be a good idea to start one with your favourite videos.

I'll start with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlwDIzO0mUY

My favourite part is this.

And asbestos being used as insulation on trains.

Yeah, not so good and actually as a non smoker I'm glad that smoking went as well.

Power doors are certainly better for despatch of trains as no half closed doors, but I wonder how many 'pti' (platform train interface) incidents there were when people got off moving trains compared to to incidents now.

So the 321s were designed for yuppies? Seemed to focus rather a lot on that in the report.

And asbestos being used as insulation on trains.

But no longer in new-build trains. BR phased out the use of asbestos around 1967 or 1968 as can be seen in this report in Hansard from March 1978.

I come to the conclusion that British Rail should not be blamed in any way for having put asbestos into its carriages and locomotives, as it did from about the Second World War up to about 1967 or 1968.

There were issues in the way it was stripped out of existing rolling stock as may be read, but shortly afterwards specialised facilities were built rather than simply putting the vehicle into was was essentially a large plastic bag while the work was done.

A relative of mine worked for Thames news & then became very high behind the scenes at ITN. He considers Thames News & Thames @ 6 had the best rail coverage of all the media, with the reporter above & Mike Pearce, who can still be occasionally heard on Southern ITN having superb contacts with unions & management & great railway knowledge. Rail coverage is scarce now on TV & radio & very uninformed he says.
