I'm pretty sure it happens every year and Northern use the Monk Bretton branch for low adhesion driver training, i.e. preparation for leaves on the line.

Correct. We use it for new drivers to be trained in low adhesion conditions before encountering it on the mainline.

Yep, driver training and not for low adhesion training anymore as it was felt that the trainee "knowing" where the track had been prepped wouldn't really be realistic.
