Hello

From September Hull council working with EY Buses and Stagecoach are changing a number of routes and also some new services

Does anyone have any info on what new routes each firm will be operating and what changes are coming to the current services in Hull?

Also is this bus alliance basically Hull's version of franchising the routes?

Stagecoach has registered changes to some routes which can be found here https://bustimes.org/licences/PB0001484

They dont give much away but it can see that they 110 has been created to replace the 111. The 34 is a new service. There looks to be changes to the 11/111 as it it now listed as Hull Interchange to Beverley/Cottingham via Holderness Road. I have also seen that the 84 registration has been cancelled.

I also know that there is due to be frequency improves to services 1, 2, 7, 8, 12, 13, 56, 57, 63, 66, 104, 105, to every 10 minutes

Nothing to do with franchising - the alliance is a partnership between the Council, Stagecoach and EY. The increase in frequencies is using government money from the bus service improvement plan.

Personally, I’m a little disappointed at how the money has been spent. Essentially, the taxpayer is paying to return frequencies on a number of routes to their pre-covid levels. I’m not sure moving the 66, for example, from a 15 minute frequency to 10 mins is the best use of cash. I’d rather increase frequencies of routes that run every 30/60 mins or create new routes/links than enhance already frequent services.

The Hull Bus Alliance is partnership between Hull City Council, Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire Buses.

The partnership aims to improve bus services so that residents and visitors have access to reliable and affordable transport.

BUS SERVICE IMPROVEMENT PLAN
We have created an ambitious plan to improve bus services across the city after carrying out a major public consultation.

As part of the National Bus Strategy published by the government in March 2021, all local transport authorities are required to develop a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), to be reviewed annually.

Working closely with Stagecoach and East Yorkshire buses, the key objectives of the BSIP 2021 to 2022, which covers the period 2022 to 2035, include -

  • a review of all key roads to ensure buses are prioritised and have free flow, improving -
  • frequency
  • journey times
  • cost value
  • a review of the service provision to key industrial, health and entertainment and leisure areas, with the aim of providing new or improved services to locations that are currently hard to reach on public transport, including for shift and night-time workers
  • a review of the bus network with the aim of simplifying routes and increasing commercially viable bus frequencies on key routes to foster a 'just turn up' approach
  • working towards implementing a carbon-neutral fleet by 2035
  • continuously seeking to encourage flexible and simpler prices
  • ensuring passengers have a seamless experience when planning journeys and travelling, especially by bus and rail via Hull Paragon Interchange
  • a review of the parking strategy and links with park-and-rides
  • establishing a performance framework that links to sustainable city outcomes
  • exploring the feasibility of a bus rapid transit system on an identified route between the city centre and Kingswood. Rapid transit is a dedicated route for guided buses or buses that runs in a similar way to a tram. It has full and exclusive priority on the route and looks and feels like a tram service, often with double length buses
Access the Hull BSIP and find out more about what you can expect of bus services in Hull, or for the Bus Passenger Charter.
