Looking through December timings for various places this morning and noticed Hull Trains will be running a service to & from Beverley from the new timetable in December.

The 1st Southbound service will depart Beverley at 0602. (KGX 0914)
The 1850 from Kings cross will run to Beverley arriving at 2146.

As far as I can see this will only be a Monday to Friday operation.
Great to see another town being linked to London!

Lucky Beverley. Nice girl.

What time would it have to leave Bridlington to make the same path south of Doncaster? Probably 05:35 or so.

I'm not 100% sure at Beverley, but certainly Driffield and Bridlington boxes don't open until 6am... So 2 shifts on the boxes would seem to be the limiting factor.

I'm not sure Bridlington would have a case, other than on Summer weekends - compare to the EMT service to Scarborough (this would particularly become an issue if Northern current express Bridlington-Hull-Sheffield is split with Hull-Sheffield going to TP).

Great stuff for East Yorkshire though - Hull Trains have said a lot about the success of their HT&NT routes tickets on the coast line, so presumably that's demonstrated the market.

I did wonder if this would happen eventually, great innovation from Hull Trains though to make it happen! The southbound also provides a much earlier connection into Hull for Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester which is great news. It might help to stem the tide of people who drive from the Beverley area to Brough to pick up trains there.

I'm not going to lie though, I'm slightly disappointed that the train won't be calling at Cottingham given there is no connection into Hull (even by bus) for this train. Is there an issue with platform length?

It's been a while since I've been to Cottingham but I recall the platforms being pretty long there. Certainly long enough for a four-car 158 but a quick play with Google Earth's ruler tool suggests that they're only 100m long so a 180 wouldn't fully. Though couldn't you have the front and back overhang a bit as the front doors aren't for passenger use (though where is the signal in the Beverley direction proteting the level crossing)?

B27 is out the back of Kingdom Hall IIRC, not far off the end of the platform.

Good on Hull Trains. If you mention the Cottingham thing to them they might think about it, I have worked there once, it appears to the similar size as Howden where Hull Trains do serve.

104 metres in both directions, so you were (well, Google Earth's ruler was) pretty spot on.

So, in that case, you could potentially have a 180 call at Cottingham and just overhand the platforms at each end as I believe the front and rear doors are crew only (unless they need to be platformed for some reason...)?

How does that compare to platform 2 at Beverley (where up and down services are booked into)?

Does anyone know how these services to Beverley stand in terms of Hull Trains track access contract?

You just reminded me.

What were you saying A74? Cottingham? That would be 108.6 metres in both directions. Beverley is 104 metres.

This must be the onset of dementia. :|

(So your ruler is not as accurate as I thought. More than 5% out.)

Well, GC calling at Mirfield certainly has the train overhanging both ends but manages to platform all the passenger facing doors I think (certainly does on p3, maybe not p1)

I trust this won't make my 06:25 Monday morning service from Hull run late?
Also, is this the reason there are currently no AP fares available for this service for the 15/12?<(

Edit: Has the plan been postponed. There's no direct Bev to Kings X on HT's journey planner.

On our journey planner the through serivce has disapeared to. On TRUST it appears as two seperate services now.
1A90 Beverley to Hull
then
1A91 Hull to Kings Cross
Hopefully its still going to run for the people of Beverley

Considering the number of people who get on the 6:25 at Hull (on Monday anyway) I can't really see any benefit starting at Beverley.

Hull Trains have announced they hope to run this service in the new future once they get clearance from the ORR.

Louise Mendham, the rail firm's performance and planning manager, said: "Yesterday morning, we successfully trialled our first test run in readiness for the green light from the Office of Rail Regulation at the end of this month.

"This is something local people from Beverley and the East Riding have been telling us they have wanted for a long time.

"It is part of our ambitious plans to ensure that this year, the East Riding is connected to the capital via a direct service as never before."

There may also be possible future expansion.
The move is First Hull Train's first foray into the East Riding's northern stations.

At present, the company only runs a Hull to London route.

However, Ms Mendham said the services could be a useful platform for further expansion.

She said: "It's just Beverley at the moment with these services.

"We've hopefully put that stepping stone there now, with our trains able to operate on that particular route.

"There's always opportunities in the future."

I noticed the other day that these services do appear in printed timetable booklets and posters.

Very odd seeing a 180 at Beverly...

I'm going to have to wangle my way onto one of these services for the novelty factor methinks.

I did wonder why my 06:25 Monday service arrived at the platform at Hull after I did.
