It has been confirmed that Hull Trains are to use an HST to cover for the loss of a class 222 unit. An HST powercar has been moved from Long Marston-Wabtec.

Been at Long Marston so i presume the PCs are ex VT. Two ex VT buffets have also been shipped off somewhere. It is likely to first run on saturdays as HSTs do not cater for the business pax as well as 222s...

What happened to the 222?
I believe 222103 is a write-off, following the failure of jacks at Crofton Works in January, which caused part of the unit to go crashing down the floor causing severe damage to 2 of the vehicles.

What a shame

Now it is not that I totally dislike the 222's but any replacement HST's are fine by me.

This is excellent news, Hull Trains have been in need of a replacement for a long time now, especially as cancellations have become rather frequent of late! Also, this could be good news for the bashers amongst us, as depending on how quickly this gets off the ground there could be HSTs to Cambridge due to closures on the ECML! Is the set going to be maintained at Neville Hill?

Depends on the diagrams really, for bashers

Where are the trailers coming from?
I thought there were none spare, hence great central using loco hauled stock.

I don't think this is entirely correct. True it fell of the Jacks but sustained major damage to one of the Driving Ends. Apparently it's under Major Repair rather than a write off.

Grand Central had a LHCS Trailers converted to 1000v ETS so it could have improved Electrics, plus there weren't 3 sets available. So perhaps there is a HST MK3 Set (Or at least half) floating around somewhere.

Yeah I got the name wrong but as I understand it its HST power cars hauling converted Ex loco hauled MK3s as there are not enough spare HST trailers. The original plan was to alter the power cars to supply LHS type ETH but this proved too complicated and the coaches are being rewired instead.

You're right Paul - the First & Standard Class vehicles are loco-hauled conversions. The catering car and TGS vehicles are original HST trailers.

Porterbrook were *very* keen to keep this one under wraps and are understood to be not best pleased about the leak...

And I'm reliably informed 103 is still in LM, not having any method of towing the machine out of there.

I do hope this happens soon, as I would enjoy arriving into Hull on a HST this time (not 222101 like last time...).

Keeping ears and eyes open!

Yes, I decided I didn't want to do 158843 (ex-ATW) off Donny, so I decided to wait for the HT 222. I felt it was only fair to give the HT 222s a shot, since Max/Jordy (one of those two!) said quite some time ago that they were quite alright.

I can say, for fact, that I absolutely hate ALL 222s. Slow, uncomfortable pieces of c**p. Should have got the 158, would have been new track via Goole (realised that much later into the day)!

For the record, the move was the 1136 Hull Trains service from Doncaster to Hull (the 1104 from Doncaster, ex-Hull, having been cancelled) on the 17th of April 2007. And I hope that will be the only time I ever get a 222 with Hull Trains, or for that matter the only time I use Hull Trains.

What was your actual bad experience? You don't seem to have given any reasons for being dissatisfied! I find the Hull Trains 222s to be comfortable with nice big seats (far superior to their voyager cousins) and a smooth ride too. The line via Goole is very dull, it's a more interesting ride down via Selby in my opinion. How are they slow? They manage the journey in a compareable time to Northern via a much longer route! And personally, I don't think you can base your opinion on Hull Trains just on one journey of 1 hour!
