Looks like they're going to struggle for a few days if the train is badly damaged. I thought they had at least one spare, or do they have another out of action?

They have three 180s and one 222. So one should be at least spare!
Unless the 222 has gone off to EMT leaving them with only 3 180s??? Or one of their trains is allready broken.

Yes but it was back in service the next day. The "fire" engine was isolated.

Well, no they wouldnt. They would have to start & terminate trains at Donny.

It would run a normal 222/180 service, but starting at Doncaster. Obviously it would then terminate at Donny from the ex London service.
Is that what you mean or am I missing something?

This is a service from Hull to London Kings Cross therefore from Doncaster where it meets the east coast mainline it can pick up from the over head wires.

They must have two trains out of action as I believe they have four and they only need 3 to operate all their diagrams. Does anyone know which ones they are.

All it proves is I think that they ideally need a fifth train long term...

Once everything sorted with regard to refurbishments and the like and the 222 has gone to EMT they will have a fleet of 5 180's

A MAN has told the Review how he witnessed the horrific scenes after a woman was killed by a train on Monday morning in an apparent suicide bid at Hatfield railway station.

The 50-year-old Welwyn Garden City resident apparently jumped in front of the 9.48am Kings Cross to Hull service.

Doug Grigg, a commuter who was at the station during the incident, said: “I was present at the fatality, first hand witness. It's believed to be a woman, as there was a bag left on the platform.

“I was there at the impact, it's most most brutal thing I've ever seen in my life. Especially the aftermath.”

He explained how the train was travelling at around 60 to 70 mph, which “demolished the woman who is believed to have walked off the platform.”

British Transport Police has confirmed it is preparing papers to send to the Hertfordshire coroner, after which an inquest into the death will be opened.

I don't see your problem in all honesty. The poor guy has had to witness the event, he's been asked for his account of events and he's given it. And it's a free paper btw, he's hardly selling his story to the highest bidder...

I'm going to have to disagree with you here...

I've unfortunately seen up close the effects a train at 60mph+ have on a person. It's not nice. Some people will deal with this is various ways. I completely understand why a witness would want to tell somebody about what they'd seen - it can be thier own way of coping.

The witness here has told a reporter for a local paper where it happened what he saw. If there had been a reporter around when I was a witness I'd have spoken to them as a way to rationalise what I'd seen. There's no way I'd have wanted payment though - just the opportunity to talk.

Hey, you may disagree with my viewpoint but talking about what I saw was good for me. The person who was hit is no more, those that saw it (and you can't imagine how much sympathy I have for drivers!) need to move on.

I'm sure a few hundred/thousand would change your mind as well.

I'd certainly do something like that, firstly, committing suicide in that manner is just a selfish act, so somebody might as well benefit from it; and secondly, evidently the newspaper there was a market for this interview, so surely it's people who buy tabloidy/local papers who are to blame? I suspect you are a Daily Mail and Ashfordby Argus reader! Thirdly, as mentioned, talking may help recover... if you get paid for talking, hey presto.
