Hey guys,

my stupid idiot self tapped out with the wrong card on the central line. I tapped in with one card and got in a muddle and tapped out with the wrong card (both contactless). I went back and tapped out again (barriers were open) but now I got this tap out on another card. Please advise as I’m stupid

Easily done. On more than one occasion I've tried to tap in\out with my work pass or tried to access the office with Oyster card!

Na sadly they ain’t. Just my Apple Pay ):
You can register both cards to your account (I don’t believe a valid journey is required as with Oyster as it’s done via payment authorisation) and your past journeys will appear retrospectively. Doing so will make it easier to identify and resolve your problem.

As others have said, you can now set up an account if you haven't already and add both cards to your account. You can then view what TFL view you as having done [As you have told it this is quite likely 1 complete journey that is fine and 1 incomplete journey that will get charged maximum]
You can dispute 3 maximum charges per month or 1 same station exit per 7 days, it isn't clear exactly what this will show as

Oh I understand. Can you sign up after this happened and it will then show after?

I’ve done this more times than I can remember. It’s not possible to fix just on your account (unless you want to pay twice), but register both your cards then email/call TfL about it and they will review.

Best thing to do once registered is find the incomplete journey on the account, and then use the “contact us about this journey” link then write out the situation as you did here. Refer to your other card showing a completed journey. They usually refund pretty rapidly.

One Saturday night I arrived back at Euston from football in the West Midlands and managed to tap out with my card instead of using my paper ticket to exit the station, leaving me with an unresolved journey. Emailed TFL and sent them evidence of the paper ticket, got a refund.

I've just done this! My credit card is registered with tfl but my debit card isn't. I rang the contact number and they seem to have sorted me out without having to register the second one. I suspect that they wouldn't have required the first one to be registered either.

I would put quite a lot of money on the fact you're right - but I am scarred from sitting on hold to TfL for 45 minutes at a time (things a bit better these days, I think)

Whole thing took under 10 minutes. Assuming all the refunds work (!) I was quite impressed. I guess this happens a lot!
