I feel like the game would be a lot more inaccessible if this was the case as you should be able to guess the station without necessarily having been. Although I wouldn't intentionally post a station that no one else is likely to have any idea where it is, even bigger stations can be tricky to identify from some photos and I think street view etc is a reasonable level of research not to make it unfair but to keep the game moving
Using reverse image search is definitely cheating in my books, but using maps, streetview, and comparing photos manually are basically essential for discovering the more obscure ones.
What are the chances that some random person in this thread has been to "Khongor" station in Mongolia for example? Let alone that they actually recognise it.

We took the Zephyr from San Francisco - Glenwood Springs (Skiing for a few days) - Chicago as part of an Amtrak Pass for 6 weeks on our first ever trip to USA. Great memories. Flew into LA from Hawaii for a few days then train up to San Francisco and a few days there before boarding the Zephyr. Highly recommended - perfectly acceptable to spend an overnight journey in the very comfortable Superliner Reclining Seats. We also went out to Las Vegas in the days when the train ran there from LA and hired a car for a few days in the winter and went to the Grand Canyon for a few days. It was covered in snow which made an amazing contrast to the exposed red rock walls of the canyon. After Chicago the trip went Memphis - New Orleans - Dallas - Houston - LA - Seattle - Chicago - Washington DC - Orlando - Miami (Hire Car) - Orlando (Hire Car) - New York.

To clarify - I don't mean to rule out Google Maps, Streetview, etc. I agree with you - I think that kind of research is all part of the fun of the game. I'm referring to reverse image searches like Google Images where simply pasting an image will show search results - often immediately identifying the station. Using reserve image search would be very effective, but also takes away most of the challenge.

I've been through Khongor - as will anyone whose ridden the Trans-Mongolian between Moscow/Irkutsk and Ulaanbaatar/Bejing.
But I agree with your general point! It's impressive that Google Streetview made it out there in 2015. I'd probably find it useful to jog my memory!

That was a tough one! China Stations probably the hardest to identify unless you’ve actually been there recently. My one and only visit to China was after taking the Trans Siberian Railway in 1989 from Moscow to Beijing (Trans Manchurian Route) so everything has changed since then and my memory has faded! So Beijing, Shenyang, Guangzhou etc unrecognisable now. Also:
All modern Major Chinese Stations look similar.
Every Major Chinese City has multiple Stations.
Google Maps – no Street Level view for China – just from above – tried Google Earth which wasn’t that much better. The thing that threw me was Shanghai Main Station has a similar Cable Stayed Bridge across the tracks but it was Red so I was caught up in wondering whether they had painted it a different colour between when the Google Maps pic was taken and when yours was taken.
Well done on such a challenging entry!
I’ll post the next one before Midday tomorrow (Monday 28 April 25).
