I am trying to work out if I would make a saving using my Tesco clubcard vouchers to buy my railcard, which is up for renewal at the end of the month, compared to buying a 3 year railcard myself and paying for it.
My disabled person's railcard runs out at the end of the month. If I renew it now it will cost £54 for 3 years (working out at £18 a year). A one year renewal will cost £20. So it is a £6 but also safeguards against a price increase in the next 3 years.
However, I currently have enough Tesco clubcard points to be able to buy a one year renewal. But if I got 3 such renewals this would work out at 3 x £20 in points so I miss the £6 saving. That said since RedSpottedHanky disappeared from Clubcard there isn't anything else I would really want to use my points for (expect for maybe a hotel room with hotels.com as and when this comes up).
Does anyone know how likely a price increase is for the Disabled Person's Railcard in the next 3 years? I am trying to work out the best thing to do here. If there is a high chance that the price will continue to stay at £20/£54 then I might just be able to use clubcard points each year to get by (could just about have enough).
Any thoughts?
