Says who? And even if they did it's absolutely unenforceable. That's scuppered it anyway even if they could get 2 units working. No travel between tiers 2 and 1 allowed I guess
You may be right.Says who? And even if they did it's absolutely unenforceable
That's only guidance, not law. That's scuppered it anyway even if they could get 2 units working. No travel between tiers 2 and 1 allowed I guess
Thanks i wasn't sureThat's only guidance, not law.
In fact the only guidance is to avoid travelling into a Tier 3 area. That's only guidance, not law.

Will they run the new trains purely to train the crews (i.e. with no passengers) alongside the old trains? The SWR Twitter feed replied to a regular enthusiast earlier, stating they believed that a unit was unlikely to see service again and that they believe a 1 train service will be in place from next week to allow crew training.

They won't enter passenger before the 3 month blockade next year if that's what your asking?
Yes I would imagine you would see them pass at Ryde St John’s road and SandownNo, I was thinking would you see both 483s and 484s running on the track at the same time, the 483s carring passengers and 484s training drivers?
interesting to see theyre fitting wooden sleepers, i thought "the railways" where moving away from wooden sleepers to either concrete or the recycled materials ones, unless because the line has a low traffic movement theyre deemed to be ok in that case so would wear out/deteriorate less compared to a main line/heavy useWorth keeping an eye on this facebook page, Richardson Rail have posted photos of the recent 484 move and the track lowering back in August:

They also have to achieve their fault free running hours/miles for acceptance as well...No, I was thinking would you see both 483s and 484s running on the track at the same time, the 483s carring passengers and 484s training drivers?
Sorry if wrong thread but if one of the 483s is being preserved then it would make sense for SWR to organise a farewell event next year using the preserved unit. This would avoid the issues covered above regarding people visiting IoW in December. Is there anything in the infrastructure upgrades which would prevent this?
That's one part of the project that I never understood. The train stops are simple and 100% effective as well as compliant with the regulations. So why go to the expense of TPWS? 484001 seems to be equipped with train stops too.I think they were planning to install TPWS? That would scupper any use of the 483s I'm afraid.
At a guess, if it is so fitted, it is probably because TPWS is the standard now and nobody dares say, “Hang on, that’s ridiculous over-provision for a line like this.”That's one part of the project that I never understood. I guess it depends when they interviewed the SWR bloke - I must admit I was beginning to wonder why we haven't seen a planning app for listed building consent, it's only three months to the blockade now.
I had a look at the planning applications for the overlay platform surfaces at Ryde Esplande and Pier Head. For level boarding of a class 484 they intend to provide a 375mm height increase at Esplanade, and 477mm at Pier Head. That’s probably as good a reason as any that 483 and 484 would never have been able to operate safely together...
Especially at Pier Head. At almost 19” in old money I expect people would not be too impressed falling into a 483...That is a BIG change in height!

To achieve PRM level access boarding (with no additional boarding aides) on the curved
section of platform it will necessary to procure and install platform gap fillers to reduce
the platform gap to within 75mm.
Yes they’re relatively new, within the last fortnight, so it could be the local authority are rattling through a backlog.I hadn't noticed those, at least it shows they're making some progress so fingers crossed we'll see one for Brading imminently... and for those Doubting Thomas's out there, they confirm 4-car trains.
(20/02182/LBC and 20/02161/LBC for anyone looking on the planning portal)
Interestingly the track at Pier Head was raised in 1966/67 (rather than lowering the platforms as was done at Esplanade) so presumably they could have chosen to lower it back down again.Yes they’re relatively new, within the last fortnight, so it could be the local authority are rattling through a backlog.
I suppose the nature of the two stations here is that they cannot lower the track, ie we mustn’t assume there’ll necessarily be overlays elsewhere?
