I've been looking at Class 1 services on RTT and there seems to be regular Leeds to Lincoln to Leeds services via Worksop which by looking at the stops got me wondering...

Didn't this used to be the Lincoln to Sheffield service using a 14X and when if it's the same service when did they extend it though to Leeds?

I ask as I'm sure the service used to only go as far as Sheffield as it used the bays there.

It was joined up with the hourly Leeds-Sheffield “express” as part of the May timetable change.

Lincoln<>Sheffields (for the most part) used to operate all stops through to/from Doncaster plus either Scunthorpe or Adwick (depending on the direction) until May last.

May last (or was it December last? Or next year?) was supposed to see the addition of semi-fast Leeds <> Sheffield <> Lincoln (fast Sheffield <> Worksop) workings onto the stopping pattern but with the stoppers turning around at Retford, thus giving 2x per hour Sheffield <> Retford. Well documented failures by all and sundry mean there aren't the trains to do that, so there was instead a rather unnecessary change to the present hourly pattern Leeds <> Sheffield (fast) <> Worksop/Lincoln (all stops). At least the rolling stock is generally an improvement vs. what was almost exclusively Pacer, although the occasional 150 is a retrograde step.....

Thanks guys, I just remember it being a Pacer and getting it from Retford Low Level to Sheffield - I didn't realise it got extended to Leeds, it just shows how behind the times I am!

Not that much behind the times. It’s obly been like this since May.

The new service slots into the **50 Sheffield to Leeds semi fast via Barnsley path as has already been mentioned. It’s timed a little earlier which means the wait for people from the Robinhood line is a few minutes less now (although it has increased the wait in the other direction). The 158 stock as standard is s much welcomed improvement. Many passengers think that these are the new trains Northern are talking about.

I think there is still a plan for December to run the 2nd train per hour but it’s possivle that this may end up being postponed again.

Interestingly (and off topic) there are routeing controversies on flows between Worksop and certain places north of Leeds where technically the now direct train to Leeds via Barnsley is not valid and you are forced by journey planners to change at Sheffield and go to Leeds via the Dearne Valley. In practise guards tend to either have enough common sense to not cause a fuss or are unaware of what has become a farcical routeing anomaly since the introduction of these direct trains.

Just one question where did these 158s come from? Are they from the East Lancs line as the York to Blackpool North service has been cut back to:

Blackpool North to Preston as EMU Shuttle
Preston to Leeds as DMU Shuttle
Leeds to York as no idea

The last time I used the line was in 2016 I think hence behind the times comment.

Several will be from the previous Sheffield to Leeds semi fast but of course they will need is expect 2 more to cover it (I haven’t looked at the diagrams in that much detail).

Leeds York Leeds service start from or terminate at Huddersfield....

On Sundays is the only day that the York Service goes to & from Blackpool....

The Lincoln Leeds Lincoln service is also worked by the 158 units that also operate on the Leeds Nottingham Leeds service.. So you might find a Leeds Nottingham Leeds service will then do Leeds Lincoln Leeds.. That explains were the extra 158 units come from

The extra 158’s have been released by additional units that have arrived from Scotrail.

Not all the services are 158’s, some are 150’s.
