Just out of interest does anybody know the line speed between Heaton near Newcastle and Morpeth?

A few weeks back I was on board a Northern 142 to Cramlington and the train was crawling along most of the way?

Being on the ECML shouldn't it have a high speed of around 100mph for example?

Thanks.

I don't know what the line speeds are for the area, but a 142 has a maximum speed of 75mph.

It may have been running on restrictive signalling aspects, as a speculation only.

More than likely following something ahead, possibly a freight or something stopping at Morpeth itself.

You should try one of the Saltburn - Newcastle via Durham trains and vice versa, nice long fast run along the ECML rattling all the way.

I can vouch for this. It's like being transported along on a mobile trampoline. And you don't seem to get anywhere.

Plus, the one everyone used to use was the last train. So it was bumpy and full of drunk raahs heading back to Durham. There is nothing worse than holding a pizza, whilst trying to stay awake, when all you can hear is a posh kid going on about how Daddy had bought her a new pony for doing well in her exams. True story. I stumbled back to my halls, and looked at what my dad got me for doing well in my exams. Except I'd eaten the chocolate orange because we'd ran out of pasta, so all i was left with was the wrapper. Life isn't fair. Cue a load of comments about me being an inverted snob.
