Just witnessed an LNER Azuma pass through Lincoln station this morning without stopping (8.40am ish), heading east. Does anyone know why this would be?

I assume it will be a diversion from the ECML heading south, although I wasn't sure if there could be a reason for it to go towards Grimsby/Cleethorpes?

Driver training, refreshing drivers' knowledge of the route via Lincoln ahead of this weekend's engineering diversions.

Unfortunately practically every other scheduled LNER service to or from Lincoln appears not to have run today, due to "a problem with the track" or a points failure.

RTT shows it as 800210 running Doncaster to Peterborough (and return, passing Lincoln at about 1030) via the Joint Line

Whatever the reason, I’m sure you have to see the irony in a bonus run through Lincoln running while every one of its usual services is cancelled.

Yes and no. As a driver myself a training trip is totally different to a service train. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Separate diagrams and crew rostering to differing destinations and routes.

Why don't LNER stop at Lincoln when on diversion?
Because there is no need.

They are already running an extremely reduced services of normally 1/2 trains per hour instead of the normal 5, so the trains are extremely busy.

Adding a Lincoln call is therefore out of the question as the capacity for customers on board the train is not available.
