I'm currently re-reading this book by Alan A Jackson.
This is the second edition, published in 1985, and succeeds the first edition, published in 1969. It's not a rewrite of the first edition, though, just a new forward and a new chapter at the end bring the story up to date to 1984. I originally read it many years ago (although I can't remember which edition it was) and enjoyed it very much; I'm pleased to say that my enjoyment hasn't lessened in the many years since.
I've been looking for a copy on and off for a while, mostly inspired to do so by the Christian Woolmar's book Cathedrals of Steam: How London’s Great Stations Were Built – And How They Transformed the City, which was published in 2020. I managed to get this copy at the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway a week or so ago, and I'm about half way through.
It's well recommended!
