Is there sort of network wide disruption today or some sort of problem with the trackers? No 3 Clovenstone bound for 50 odd minutes. Over an hour between the last 33 and the next one from Fernieside.

Harry Styles at Murrayfield tonight and tomorrow night causing mayhem. Have seen a 1 terminate short at Leopold Place, a 4 terminate at Haymarket and several buses run late as well as full and standing. Tuesday night may be the same when Bruce Springsteen visits.

The old (well, existing!) network map is here for reference. The new colour for the 4 just feels wrong given the old blue. Slightly interesting representation of the new tram route on the network map too...

The location specific maps have also been updated (except someone has forgotten to update the tram on them!).

I would say both. I had trouble tracking an X27 today that my wife was catching into Edinburgh before the issues started with Harry Styles.
She also had hassle last night with the last X27 from Edinburgh to Calderwood. This really appeared to be a cock up of the highest order either by the driver or control or both.
Highlights was running light from Waterloo Place to at least the Exchange then for some reason running through Kirknewton. Thanks to Bustimes I am able to show the journey concerned https://bustimes.org/vehicles/nelb-574?date=2023-05-25#journeys/430853059 for anyone who cares.
She ended up getting the last X28 behind it then walked it from Langton Road.

Edinburgh Airport was sheer carnage tonight.

Huge queue of at least 100 people waiting for City bound 100s, with about 100 waiting for the 900.

There were concert goers which somehow made it there… it was insane.

There were illegally parked cars throughout Gorgie, Corstorphine and Ingliston and delays of up to 75 minutes on some routes.

I hope the situation is better in the coming days; I imagine today is going to be just as busy as yesterday as there is football, Harry Styles, and the Marathon Festival all on today, and the Marathon on tomorrow as well.

On a slightly different topic, why do 291-294 have opening windows given they have air conditioning, or at the very least have stickers on the windows telling people not to open them?

Has anyone else had issues with the app? It’s not loading fast at times and sometimes doesn’t show any buses?

I've had such issues for months now. I end up using bustimes.org or other apps instead.
I'm the same. I thought it was just my new mobile network being really slow, but the app is being defective on wi-fi now too. I usually just use Google Maps when that happens.

I was also just about to complain on here about the route colours. Why have some been updated and others haven't? Do Lothian not have a proper version control system for this sort of thing?
I noticed some of the planned service diversions aren't going up until very late as well. The changes for today (Saturday) due to the Marathon didn't go up until yesterday afternoon, and the fact there is a concert at Murrayfield on Tuesday didn't go up until today.

The situation reminds me of the 33 & 48 a while back. Obviously they still had the 29 to the City though. Looks like it'll be a connection for passengers unless the timings with the X31 work out well which won't be the case for most.

I think the most controversial bit is actually the 46 only being once an hour on evenings and Sundays for people in Rosewell (even if the connection at Bonnyrigg isn't ideal with people waiting up to 15-20 mins for the 31 in Bonnyrigg). I think they should have at least have had the 46 every half hour between Royal and Infirmary or at least Dalkeith and Rosewell at those times so Rosewell isn't isolated.

They have messed around with the 49 over the years and while it was only once an hour to Rosewell 20 years ago when they first extended it from Danderhall, it still seems strange what they've done with it.

It was given a lower panel repaint late last year after an accident.

So far, 179/88 have moved to Marine as has 1005. 1142/3 are at Longstone now. 184 has arrived at Marine now as well so that leaves just 178 which is still at Central.
178 & 1004 are now at Marine. 32/3 & 39-41 have moved to Central and 1144/5 are now at Longstone.

I don't suppose anyone is aware whether the Sunday 12 is still operated by Central?

They do not have air conditoning.

All of 31-41 are at Central now.

I'm guessing as I've read elsewhere that the reason they've changed some and not all is to remove conflicting colours being beside each other on the map after the changes?

I can't say I've studied the before and after map to qualify that suggestion, or form an opinion on the end result - but there does seem to be a fair bit of noise around it.

I can admit, as much as I loved the old colours, and I still think the colour choices could've been better, the Gyle Centre was a mess. I couldn't tell which route was what at a first glance.

Sorry, I was actually referring to the app and web route colours today and in the last few days - some routes had their colours updated to the new route colour (e.g. 21) but others hadn't (e.g. 4). I would have expected all the changes to have happened at the same time.

They do not have air conditoning.
How does the HVAC system on them work then? They obviously need saloon heating, and it's my understanding that it's more efficient to do this through a vapor-compression refrigeration system than through a "passing current through a resistor until it heats up" system. In which case the system can cool as well as heat, by operating in reverse.

I compiled a rushed and not visually pleasing comparison to the new and old route colours, as I am interested to things like that.

  • The colours are similar to their old ones, even Services like the 22, 36, etc. They have a different tone and brightness but you can still see the old colour in some shape or form, at least in my opinion.
  • These changes affected every service, even if it was a very minimal change.
  • They also changed the roundedness of the squares.

Looks like 1051-1055 will be Marine based as of tomorrow. They are all there. 466-470 are at Central.

so today I opened the app, clicked on service 9 and the app crashed. Tried it again and the same thing. It's not an issue with other services. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Just seen a zoo branded B5 on the 29. Is this permanent or is it temporary due to all the extras for concerts and the marathon?

466-470 swapped with 1051-1055 last night. 1056-1062 are expected to transfer to Marine too, supposedly they're moving to East Coast Buses in due course.

Sounds like they will replace 841-850 and possibly some new buses for the 26 at Marine?

By the sounds of it I think the transfer of 466-470 to Central is probably temporary. I’d expect some of 1051-1062 to be in Seafield fairly shortly for repaint prep if the transfer is indeed happening, as I don’t think Marine needs all of them.

A lot of what I would call strange movements at the minute, but once it’s all pieced together in full I’m sure it will make sense.

Marine appears to be losing almost half of its E400mmc B5TL’s, which at the minute appears to mean that 21 has lost them. Early days though so shall have to wait and see on that part.
