Thanks for the update.
Last month Northern app still only offered m-ticket or collect at station for a local journey.

Phone out of battery, no phone signal (common in rural areas), phone running updates when inspector comes round - could all lead to a penalty fare on an m ticket whereas an e ticket can be printed out, emailed to your laptop etc. Also m tickets don't work for overnight break of journeyWhat is the disadvantage of m-ticket over e-ticket for journey where the ticket purchaser is travelling. In my case I purchased a Seamer - Chorley return this week as I assume an m-ticket, it was the type that have to be activated on your phone.
An eTicket can be carried on multiple devices in various formats or even printed out, whereas an mTicket must be held on one device, in an app, and must be activated before use. What is the disadvantage of m-ticket over e-ticket for journey where the ticket purchaser is travelling. I always carry a small power bank, its not big enough for a full charge, but it will get me out of trouble, make a call or send a message. On a related note a lot of trains and even buses have USB charging sockets, so I always try and keep my phone 'topped up' when out for the day. One thing that did surprise was yesterday on a 331, quite a new design had power sockets but no USB socketsPhone out of battery,
Once the ticket is downloaded to the device the Northern app doesnt need a phone signal, I just activate once the train is close byno phone signal (common in rural areas)
I set my phone to manual updates, its not just ticketing that is a problem, I want updates to take place when at home and connected to a solid wifi signal, not when out and about with sketchy mobile signals. I do the same with my laptop. I can see this might be a problem for less tech savvy people.phone running updates when inspector comes round
Interesting as far as i can see the GC SOR is only set up for CCST PRT and ToDI can confirm it's offering me e tickets too including on grand Central only returns from Northallerton to York, whereas lner and tpe make me pick that one up from the station.
However if I select a flow that requires collection from station it says I can't collect my tickets from NTR. That's news to me, unless collection is somehow limited to Northern stations
It seems fairly common for the rules to simply be ignored to be honest. For example trainline issuing tickets on route +Any Permitted for journeys where the itinerary doesn't include an LU leg.Interesting as far as i can see the GC SOR is only set up for CCST PRT and ToD
I wonder if the main Trainline app sells them as eTicket. If so could be yet another case of Trainline's alternative to RCS being out of sync with what the rest of us have to useInteresting as far as i can see the GC SOR is only set up for CCST PRT and ToD
Yep, Trainline seem to ignore the industry data and do their own thing. So much for the idea of accreditation. It seems fairly common for the rules to simply be ignored to be honest.
