Liverpool-Blackpool by wizzo electric trains? Uh-oh
Hmm...

The enforced split at Preston on off-peak services won't have helped.
Essentially, the only real improvement has been in capacity, with trains that were mostly 2-car rattletraps now reliably 4-car 319s which whatever anyone says is a marked improvement on what went before.
Speeds are due to go up a smidgeon in December, but nothing dramatic.
So far they have used the time gained by the 319s for longer turn-rounds at each end, and I expect the PRM figures are up.
Frequency is still very poor on Sundays, the 319s hardly get out of bed.
Wavertree is also due to lose its Manchester/Airport semi-fast once the switch with the CLC line is enacted.
There's nothing in the literature that says TPE will stop there.
The odd spot of congestion near Huyton (eastbound fasts catching up stoppers) should improve with the 4th track.

I'm not sure your figures demonstrate a "sparks effect", as usage across the network is growing at about the same rate.
There was however a tendency for numbers in this region to go down in recent years.
The effect of the Merseytravel ticketing system also skews any Merseyside rail numbers - the station data never seems to match the numbers put out by Merseyrail, for instance.
One suggests a slowly declining railway, the other a steadily growing one.

Are some of the decreases in figures due to people not using the railway whilst the electrification works took place, either because the lines were shut or running a reduced service and also when a service was running people assumed there would be such problems and used other methods.

Even so does seem to suggest a positive effect.

With apologies for going off-thread, as somebody who is entirely new to Flickr and other on-line photographic albums, how does one actually go about 'viewing' the pictures?

Do people have to have an 'account', pay, etc.?

Just touching the links seems to lead one deep into non-intuitive 'tech' screens.

Cheers

Welcome.

The whole point of the flickr albums is that they are completely free, no login or owt like that unless you want to write, when you do have to do a minimum.

I'm baffled that you have been cast into techiedom; I've tried and can't reproduce your problem. If you point at the link below and just do a single mouse click it should take you to the header for the album, which does the same job as a book cover. Below that on the screen you will see the most recent shots, starting with one entitled 8316m Huyton. Each shot has a unique title made up of a unique number and a consistent name for each location.

You can navigate round the album by mouse action, you should never need to know anything about computers, programming or the like.

Please try this and see what happens. If it messes you about please get back to me with exactly what you did and exactly what it did.

Good luck!

I've been doing this for about three years and no-one has reported this before, or even hinted at it. I'm completely at a loss to know what's going on.

Penmorfa, have you any idea what you need to be signed in to?

Have you any idea what "permission" someone needs?

Can anyone please shine any light on this?

If images are not marked for public viewing, you will not be able to see them without an account:

Well, I don't have an account with Flikr and I can see the pictures on both links, so I think there's some other problem going on...

I've never even heard of 'not marking images for public viewing'. I simply import all images into flickr from my hard drive using the bog standard facility.

I don't do anything 'clever' or 'behind the scenes' or 'techie' I just upload and off you go.

Given the scale of this operation (three substantial albums and scores of lesser albums with each image viewed by hundreds of viewers UK and abroad, spread over three years) I'm at a loss to understand what has suddenly happened to two users, now. I'm certainly not aware of owt I'm doing differently.

If anyone can make practical suggestions what to look for I'll be pleased to play ball, but otherwise I'm stumped.

Perhaps the poster has (or has had) a Flickr account; the browser remembers, but the user does not? Sounding more implausible as I write, but that's what came to mind for me. Possibly on a shared device, so someone else's credentials are required?

I get that (or similar) sometimes if I click on a Flickr link from here without being logged in to this board.

Having set this hare running yesterday it is only fair to report that I tried the original link again this morning, same device, albeit different wi-fi network, and it worked fine.

So haven't got a clue what had been going on.

I have never had a Flickr account by the way. Neither is this a shared device.

Looks as though there may be some interesting stuff in these albums. Thanks to those who populate them.

Thank you for letting me know.

The three albums which I have had the pleasure of compiling are:

Blackpool-Manchester 1945-2015
https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/albums/72157648767927083

Blackpool-Manchester 2015- (current)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/albums/72157661069863633

Liverpool-Manchester 2013- (current)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/albums/72157648494725811

As you will see, they are entirely composed of amateur shots given for publication by a host of people. New contributors are always welcome, all you need to do is send me a Personal Message on this forum and I'll send you my email address, thereafter you just send me shots, ideally with a bit of narrative (location is helpful) and I do the rest.

No money changes hands in either direction.

It works for me as well now. Let's put it down to a bit of Flickr silliness! I do have a Flickr account by the way - see my signature

Thank you for this.

May I also thank you for the wonderful material you put out under the Penmorfa banner which I strive to link to as much as possible in Wikipedia articles.

As at 14.00hrs today - 70815 is at Roby Junction (down slow line) on a spoil train and slowly moving towards Roby Station as each wagon is loaded. Unable to see further back unfortunately but I am sure there is a train on the down fast line too but unable to see loco(s). No trains visable between Roby and Huyton Junction. At least 4/5 road/railers on the tracks by Huyton Bus Station busy doing the overhead cantenary along with assistance from a road crane too. Apparently the other loco's that should be around include 56087, 70802 and 70806. Probably wont go back to location now as weather not very good. HTH.

The Ainscough crane, in the Huyton Hey Road car park, lowering a pulley into position onto a gantry. Photo taken from the bus station.

Apologies for the previous blank entries; having a bad PC day! So bad that it wasn't letting me delete them!

Went to Huyton and Roby this morning.

1. Lots of orange at Roby junction-to-be
2. Kirov crane parked just west of Bridge Rd bridge at Roby
3. Orange at signal clobber west of Huyton
4. Orange at signal clobber on Huyton platform 4
5. Long spoil train at Huyton Jct, being loaded by three yellow diggers which are excavating the bed of Track 4. Train has Class 56 at its Liverpool end and Class 70 at its Manchester end.

Photos later.
