The attached appeared after about 10 mins of using Chrome this afternoon. I do use the Site Advisor McAfee programme, but have never heard of Secure Search. Further, it doesn't look too official, or feel like a McAfee product.

So, basically, is this file safe or do I need to get Malwarebytes on the job?

Cheers

It is legit, but I wouldn't bother with it personally. It flags up "unsafe" sites when I know they are "safe", particularly ones with Russian singles adverts on them ;)

I think I have seen it before too and I think it is legit, however, I don't want any more rubbish slowing down any of our computers and they all have AV and such already - seems to be working fine without so I ignore them (or uninstall random security rubbish if the family install it unwittingly)

I'm constantly having problems with Java trying to download onto my computer, and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting rid of it

I have noticed that when some of the many Adobe packages that I have come up for updating, the major ones have a "McAfee" optional package to load tailored to the package, which you have to remove the "tick" if you do not want it, which many people may well miss. However, I was advised to de-check that box, as my Norton 360 Anti-Virus was perfectly good to cover any such eventualities.

Instead of McAffee SafeSearch I've discovered Web of Trust (WOT) is pretty good at telling you which sites are safe to access or not.

When signed up to WOT you can also rate sites you've visited: in other words you can specify whether they're safe to access or not, or whether the site in question contains objectionable content.
