Hello all,

I have been granted two day's off in December, the Saturday and Sunday on the 14th/15th, a rare move since you aren't actually allowed holidays in December in retail!

Anyway, I am hosting a meet up on Saturday the 14th December, which I've invited a few from Facebook and so far a couple of people are coming along. The more the merrier though to support this new service.

Basically the main idea of this meet is to celebrate the increase of services over the Melksham line. Many people still need this line as it's awkward to do, and it's only easy to do if HST's are diverted on this singe line.

If anyone want's to join in at anytime, you can do, especially if you still need it then feel free to join for a a chance to scratch the track!

I will draw up an initial itinerary once the confirmed times are up, but the first part of the meet will be running up and down between Swindon and Westbury, which will give a chance for others to join the train later on at Swindon or Westbury if they are coming from London, the Midlands or somewhere not local.

Since this bash celebrates the Melksham lines new services, lunch will be at Melksham, where it will now be possible to actually get off at the station and still be able to catch the train later without having to wait a ridiculously long time!
This will either be at Asda or one of the many local takeway's. Although the latter is a slightly long walk, I spent most my life living there so I know my way to the takeaway's!

The best ticket for this day is the Heart-of-Wessex Day Ranger. Once we've had lunch and made use of the Melksham services enough times, we can spread out to the rangers boundaries if you like too, making use of it's new additions such as Swindon - Bristol Parkway or Severn Beach, or even Pilning (Walk from Severn Beach, or taxi if desired)

Or if everyone's happy to make use of the Melksham trains and just sit on the train and have a laugh and a long chat about rail stuff whilst we shuttle between Westbury and Swindon, then I'm up for that too .

Anyone who want's to come along, just say so. If you need to book time off or whatever, the 14th is the confirmed date and it will not change.

James.

Of course that would depend if your boses dont suddenly change their minds and ask you to come and work extra hours. At the moment I wont really know what days I will be working until at least 2 weeks before hand however if I have a day off on the 14th December I will be coming along since I dont get many opportunities to meet up with memebers of this forum or travel the line through Melksham.

Anthony - More chance of the moon landing on earth! My manager is very good as he's one of those 'You help me, I help you' guys, and generally reminds me of that when I need time off or whatever. The Saturday and Sunday is in the rota as 'off' so I won't hear a thing. Even so, I am in my rights to refuse Saturday anyway as it's not a contracted day.
Even when I'm off after a 2 week straight shift, that day could be extremely busy but I'd be left alone and he wouldn't call me in, though I can turn up myself if I feel like it.

Thinking about this lunch at Asda, might be worth using it for supplies for the day instead, and then heading over to the 'Spoons for lunch and/or a drink. Haven't been to the Spoons in Melksham yet, it's not been there that long.

Dennis - Forgot that runs! Hopefully we can avoid it, last time I got the Santa Train was last year coming back from work. I wondered why a 153+150 was rolling into Swindon, more coaches than usual, and saw it was rammed! We left 5-6 minutes late in the end as everyone tipped off (slowly) at the station!

I did end up on it before on a rover in Wessex days or early FGW day's. It was a 143 too!! Got a free mulled wine, drank the top half before we left Swindon so it didn't spill, just as well as it was sloshing around in the plastic mini cup as we rocked over the junctions out the station!

Also don't forget we can get off at Swindon to watch D1015 come through on the The Maybach Meanderer tour :)

My boss is the same doesnt mean I dont get my shifts changed at the last minute like tonight.

I was working 1500-1900 ended up covering the 1900-2100 delivery slots as well. Trying to find houses in the dark is the one thing I really hate about my job. Anyway a request for that saturday off has been put on Nexus (Icelands intranet)

Right it appears timings for the tour have been posted, when I'm back from work tomorrow I'll draw up a plan, but as it stands the meeting point for the first part is basically the train, just join us at any of the stations between Swindon and Westbury.

Will try and do a group photo when we are all together too, one at Melksham station and one by the shuttle unit probably at Westbury or Swindon.

Remember if you are coming from South Wales/West you only need a ticket to Bristol Parkway or Bristol Temple Meads (depending which way you go), the Heart-of-Wessex day ranger will cover you to Swindon via both routes and Westbury via Bath.

Right folks, the basic plan is:

2M53 09:32 Westbury - Swindon 10:18
Western pass Swindon 10:47
1C10 11:32 Swindon - Chippenham 11:48
2M55 12:00 Chippenham - Swindon 12:18
2M56 12:36 Swindon - Westbury 13:18
2M57 13:32 Swindon - Melksham 13:47
LUNCH
2M58 15:02 Melksham - Westbury
OR
2M12 15:21 Melksham - Swindon

Then we can either stay on the shuttle and just gas about trains, or if anyone needs any other lines that the ranger covers, we can do them, therefore it's best to decide on the day weather to do 2M58 or 2M12 from Melksham.

I'll probably be out before 9am on a mileage accumulator run, probably to Bristol or something then back to Westbury for 2M53.

A good place to meet might be Swindon for the tour, if you can't make that then you can join us on the above services as listed.

Anyone still confirming that they are coming?

Sorted that now I meant the saturday.

A 12 hour shift is not something I really want to be doing on a saturday but 10am-10pm is better than working until 11pm.
