Hi everyone I am just putting a quick thread up to ask when do merseyrail normally start recruiting for new staff. I would like to be a guard but wouldn't mind starting off as a ticket sales person. I am currently a pcso for merseyside police and have been for four years but now feel like a change and hopefully a more stable job than the one I currently have. I would be grateful for any information anyone could give me
Thanks

Don't think there is really any sort of set order when they advertise, it'll be when someone needs replacing through retirement, promotion etc. Very much a wait and see game.

Send covering letter/CV into the address given and they add you to the pile.

I phoned them beginning of Jan. They told me they no longer keep CVs on file and they only advertise through their website http://www.merseyrail.org/careers.html They very rarely have anything on here though. They did mention they are going to change their policy on only recruiting drivers. At the moment they only promote from within. I know you didn't ask about drivers but I thought i'd mention it for anyone else reading.

I would think you would be better off looking at NortherRail or First as these have more opportunities. You could be waiting a long time for anything to appear on the MerseyRail site.

I don't mean try now! What I mean is northern and first have more jobs for trainees coming up, if you are like me, check every day. Could take months to see a position come up but I know northern are recruiting soon (well that's according to their HR I spoke to last week) There's a few TOCs working out of Liverpool and I'm sure someone on here can list them all but First & Northern are your best bets, then Merseyrail. That's just my opinion though, but keep trying. The jobs will come.

Merseyrail, Northern Rail, First TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains have train crew based in Liverpool.

Lime St is also served by London Midland (nearest TCD Crewe) and East Midlands Trains (Nottingham)

I really wouldn't bother with Merseyrail. I got down to the final 32 last year for a guards job. Unfortunately i wasn't one of the ten that got jobs. However they said they would provide me with feedback within 3 weeks. However, nearly FIVE months later i'm still waiting for a call from them. Thats even with my dad who works for merseyrail speaking to the head of H.R. They banged on about customer service all day , yet they cant provide potential employees with simple feedback.

The interview process wasn't bad to be honest. 1st stage was the opc assessments, if u havent already done these or passed them you will need to pas all 3 exams to get through to assessment day. On the assessment day it involved a written exercise, presentation excercise and two mini interviews! also an observation test at the end.

I noticed that on the site the only thing is I am just in the process of buying a house and I can't really afford the drop in pay I am currently on and also the term of the contract. Thanks for letting me know though
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Just checked the pay now is shift allowance in the 14000-17000 or does it get added on because that might match my pay or not be as bad of a drop. Also what are the chances of getting something permanant after the six months

Hi,

Due to the sheer volume of candidates that wil apply for the role, we will initially only inform successful candidates. Unsuccessful candidates will have to call up .

This will be done by 29th March and the testing and selection day are penciled in for the first 8 days of April.

No worries I phoned the HR department and they said they have received my cv and covering letter so panic is over haha. Not happy with Royal Mail though as they are still showing as having my letter. Thanks for the reply anyway RMT Guard. If you don't mind me asking what job do you do for merseyrail
