Hi jay mac, I've been a guard for not long, been with the company for less than a year. The job is ok, except for when you have to work late weekend trains and deal with potentially volatile people. There are better TOC's to work for in my opinion and I don't think I will be in the job for much longer, but thats just my opinion, some people I know there have worked near on 20 years and absolutely love it!

I'm use to dealing with volatile people with the job I currently do.I am also use to shifts ad working weekends. Before joining merseyrail had you worked on the railway before.

I got the feeling he was referring to the attitude of staff/ management, not just the customers!

I used to be a tour guide at a local football stadium. With regards to weekends and late/early shifts, to be honest, that didn't take me too long to get used to.

What football team did you do the tours for. Thanks for the info,

LFC. We won lots of rewards such as the Mersey Tourism Partnerships, but I wanted a career change. I like being on the move, but I might look for a job with the long distance TOC's ans see the country.

I can offer some advice for the recruitment process and interview if anyone wants to PM me.

Hi JTD,

I have only just joined the forums (been reading for some time though) so can't PM until I reach 5 posts!

Can you offer any help with the recruitment process etc for the Merseyrail guard vacancy?

Thanks

Hi b4zza,

I can't pm you yet either, so when you can, pm me and I'll explain all for you.

SteWhit, the closing date for applications is this Friday, so you're not too late just yet! :) Good luck to everyone that applies.

Thanks JDT,

currently working on my cover letter and updated CV which I will send special delivery...so once I have submitted these I will get in touch for any info you can offer!

Is it just me, or is it difficult to locate any useful info regarding the Merseyrail Guard role? Google just seems to want to give me page after page about the tragedy at James St recently!

Has anybody got any updates / news ???
Nothing yet, but that's understandable given the likely volume they will be working through? If I hear anything I will post an update straight away, hopefully everyone else will do likewise! Good luck......

Postman has just been to me, but nothing from Merseyrail...oh well I suppose that's that then! I hate the rollercoaster of emotions once you send your application in, hoping you will hear back and expectantly waiting, to be ultimately disappointed. Have to try and work out where I went wrong with what I thought was a good letter and CV. Good luck to all those who were successful, and remember that practice makes perfect so don't waste your chance by not being prepared!

Same with me just checked and nothing from Merseyrail, thought my cover letter was good but must have missed something. Was going to phone he to check if they had sent anything but don't want to hassle them. But well done to every one who passed and are on the next stage

I contacted HR and they told me it has been sifted and those who where successful have been contacted. Will have to try again when there is another intake
