507/8 observations this afternoon.

507004+120+029 (coupled 9-car) shunting on North depot.
507009 seen inside North shed (most likely still with 138)
507029 later worked 5D17 alone routed to NBN platform 1. 004+120 must've gone in the shed.

507028 stabled at West Kirby Sdg 2 (5T65)
508126 stabled at West Kirby plat 1 (to work 2W39)

507023 and 508139 barely fitting in New Brighton Sdg 1 (139 failed this morning on 2C13 and moved from RFY as 5T64)

507002 (2N36)
508111 (2C43)

507026 is inside the shed as well, although stood down a few weeks ago.

Any news as to when long term Southport sidings resident 507018 will be back in use?

There's also a path to Sims that same day at 0956 operated by RailAdventure.... so there is confusion as to which one is actually going to run!

With regard to the driver or drivers? They leave Derby wiz up to bidston very early then go straight to sims on the same day.? That seams like a long night/day shift and you end up in newport .

Was the highlighted presumption correct? :)

507018 has returned to service on the Southport line this afternoon following a long period laid up in the sidings.

Been out and about catching units today.

A 508 failed around 1500 at James St on inbound Chester which stopped the whole loop. Apparently a power control issue on the unit. Possibly 508139 as it was stabled at Rock Ferry shortly after things resumed running (and wasn't there earlier on) but can't confirm.

508136 was on Birkenhead depot but later came off as it was stabled next to 139 at Rock Ferry - it then did a few hours on Chesters (presumably in place of the failed unit) until end of diagram (1840 arrival at Chester).

508111 noted outside North depot this morning along with 507002, 508136, 507032. The 2 withdrawn units 026/126 noted in shed.

When I went past this eve 507002 visible inside shed, 111 not visible at depot unsure if its still there or gone elsewhere.

508128 on Southports.
508130 on New Brightons.
Didnt see 508117.

Hope this helps!

507014 dramatically failed this morning on the 0853 from New Brighton with smoke under carriage 64380; I believe it was a motor-alternator fault. Plenty of smoke billowing and the associated smell.

depends on the general condition. MA sets arent that difficult to change. But do they replacement machines. And what is the state of the wheelsets, bogies and traction motors.

It's time put another myth to bed. 507/8s can still be used on the Kirkby line as 508104 is forming the 1405 Liv Cen - Kirkby this afternoon.

Edit: 507015 is on the Ormskirk line also, currently working the 1446 Liv Cen - Ormskirk.

As has already been explained electric trains (either 50x or 777) can currently operate to Kirkby under a special dispensation arranged with Network Rail.

Once the whole line to Headbolt has been opened this special dispensation will be taken away and electric services will be banned from operating past Fazakerley.

The original claim was that 777/0s had the dispensation but nothing was mentioned for 507/8s.

A nice surprise is 507007 + 508128 on an additional 1725 Kirkdale - Ormskirk service for the Evertonians. A Merseyrail 'FootEx'!

I wonder if this will become a usual occurrence on match days given the Ormskirk and Kirkby lines are now booked to be operated by 4 car 777s.

Seems the 50x have been going pop recently showing its age, just as much as 777 going pop with its youthful impatience as it's getting used to service intensity, lots of popping going on.

I can see a meme starting. ;)

On the Merseyrail 2.0 FB group, it mentioned the all 508s has to be gone by December, so you have 4 months to enjoy them before they're gone for good.

So it possibly means the 507s will continue on limited services until About March or April next year, possibly like peak services as additional cappacity. Or Is it planned 507s will go very soon after 508s. Let‘s just hope the last units to go are 507001 and 002, as it would mean first two 507s introduced to Merseyrail were also the last, a nice fitting end for tremendous service of the 507s/508s for nearly 45 years. Is there any hopes about preserving a car from 507001 or 002, it’s better than nothing. Ideally, we like if we could have whole 3 car set, but that’s unlikely.

507001 was overhauled very recently so is likely to be one of the final survivors. 507003 I believe is being overhauled as we speak so is likely to last a while. No idea when 002 was overhauled last.

I have question. Is 507001 still tagged, because its seems it was tagged in about late July, early August, so does anyone known if it has been cleaned yet?

It’s been confirmed on the Mersey railways 2.0 page that 23 507s will make it into 2024 :)
