Just had what's likely to be my final ride on my namesake unit, which was on the xx:53 departures from New Brighton. A bit jolty when getting underway, but lovely and warm as always.

Just had what's likely to be my final ride on my namesake unit, which was on the xx:53 departures from New Brighton. A bit jolty when getting underway, but lovely and warm as always.

One of the motor cars has been making a loud popping noise pulling away from every station for several weeks. It's the same sound as when the driver shuts off power at low speed.

3 x 507's on the New Brighton circuit including 507001 on the xx38 New Brighton departure.

507001 currently at New Brighton, next departure 13.38 - forgot they miss out a couple of xx38 diagrams during the day. 507028 on the xx53 circuit, 507018 also noted stabled.

Just got a lovely ride on 507001 departed from Birkenhead North late towards New Brighton at 1517

One interesting development is that there seems to be a track fault affecting Platform 2 at Birkenhead North, so I may well have had my last 507 rides into and out of Platform 1.

507002 hasn't long come off some pretty hefty maintenance to get it back in service. I think it only managed a few diagrams (if that) so that was money well spent

I updated my records on both of these on 01/02/24 to indicate in storage and there has been no change that I have heard of since.

Considering there wasn't going to be any more scrap moves until after the Grand National, I wonder whether these two will get a reprieve now 2 more have gone to Sims?

507013/032 went to Newport on February 19th.

507's that haven't had life extension overhauls 021/023 and 031 will be the next most likely to be taken out of service. Units that have had life extension overhauls since 2020 will most likely be the last ones to be withdrawn by May 001/003/007/010/011/014/015/016/017/018/020/028/029/033

507013/032 went to Newport on February 19th.

So you're saying I am being slightly optimistic in my hope of them returning to traffic then?

The units longest since overhaul are 507021, 507014 and 507031. I'd be very surprised if 021 wasn't part of the next scrap move, with 014 most likely to be the other if it continues to be based on remaining mileage.

However, 507023 was amongst the last 507s overhauled so that is very unlikely to be amongst the next to go barring any major faults.

507003 is on the Ormskirk line for the second day running, forming the 14.46 from Central at the moment. Always good to see one on an interesting, and now rare, route.

I have to say though, 003's acceleration is terrible and its ride quality is rough too. The slowest one left without a doubt. This unit was a barnstormer prior to overhaul, too!
