Thanks for keeping us updated, a very fun read! Did it feel long, or was it fun throughout?

Oh, fun throughout, not least chatting with the other ABD-PNZers on that journey, including one who had had a T-shirt made to commemorate the occasion!

The 13.5 hour ABD-PNZ journey wasn’t too long, compared with other trips I’ve done in the past, like some journeys between European countries (on Inter-Rail many years ago), and 24 hours from Jasper to Vancouver, all very enjoyable.

I was interested in doing Paris-Moscow, and the Trans-Siberian, until COVID and then the Russia/Ukraine conflict intervened…

Fair play. How much did all that set you back, if you don’t mind sharing?

I booked the trains (with a railcard) and hotels well ahead. All trains first class, apart from Lumo!

Morpeth-Aberdeen £39.60
ABD-PNZ £161.55
Penzance-Plymouth £13.95
Plymouth-London £44.95
Pullman Dining meal with wine £70 (incl £15 steak supplement, which was well worth it!)
London-Morpeth £32.55

Aberdeen hotel £43.74
Penzance hotel £64.35

Aha my first dip back into the forum after my Mold (bus) to Chester to ABD to PNZ (Wednesday) to Chester. It was a pleasure to meet at hat with you Bill . I’m reflecting on my 3 days of adventures for my diary and to advise my friend doing the trip in May. I’ll carefully read all the messages soon

Being in the same first class carriage as Mainliner in my opinion it was fun and definitely didn’t seem like 13hrs. By the end I’d chatted with all 8 in first even though we were widely separated seat-wise. I had some emergency food supplies from home and supplemented from the Coop on Union Street Aberdeen at 0715 ( note buy alcohol previously). The host Josh in first from ABD to Newcastle was Attentive, a nice coffee with coffee bag soon after boarding, the hot bacon roll soon after - as I’d had a hotel breakfast, I saved my bacon roll till around 10 then enjoyed another ( I requested) before Josh left. Lunchtime early for me- soon after noon- my home made pasta with an excellent bottle of Scottish Ale ( purchased prev night) .
As others mentioned on other discussion- I ensured I used loo before Leeds as a bit busy. From around Edinburgh to Sheffield I was boxed into my window seat at a table for 4 with ‘older’ ladies at aisle seats. Leeds to Birmingham busiest time - so best time for a doze as scenery not best. After the lady next to me left at Tiverton i could resume a little walk up and down- with my walk to and from stations Abd & PNZ I managed to get my step count over 5,000
