Probably more likely, when XC electrified (prob CP6), would be the Lichfield TV cross city terminators extended to Burton. It would only need one more unit, and would open up north Birmingham - Burton (with connections beyond) commuting options.

This was looked at briefly in about 1996, possibly because the then Midlands Zone strategic planning manager lived in Burton and worked in Brum...

That is what Centro want, but to make it work for Brum you would need to cut Burton from XC as it will always be monumentally quicker.

Bit late here but Coleshill can't be dropped, apparently my 170 yesterday was "approaching Coleshill" for the entire journey - it would have nowhere to go!

Interesting talk here nevertheless.

IIRC the South Staffordshire Line isn't double track between Wychnor Junction & Lichfield Trent Valley station. I am unsure whether sufficient paths would be available between Wychnor Junction to Derby or Nottingham for extra services.

Instead of a service via Birmingham New Street, why not a Birmingham International-Aston-Lichfield Trent Valley-Derby service?

Would it be any gain to TOCs & Network Rail to completely double track Wychnor Junction to Lichfield Trent Valley?

Not at the minute no as next to sod all goes down there, if any future service went to a 20 minute interval you might have to look at it. You would probably need to re-signal it and abolish Lichfield TV Jn box too.
