Network Rail Salary Sacrifice

Didn't want to post this in the signaller career thread as not sure If its relevant.

Does network rail run an electric car salary sacrifice scheme? And if so is it open to signallers?

No they don't. Managers in band 3 and above can have a car allowance as part of their overall pay award but there's no car scheme open to the whole workforce. The same question is frequently asked on Yammer (internal social media platform) and the answer is always that is is too difficult because of the way the company is funded by the Department for Transport. There is, however, a 'cycle to work' bike scheme run occasionally.

That's a shame, would have been a nice perk, but you can't have everything! I will however take advantage of the cycle to work scheme. Thanks!

Don't forget that salary sacrifice (especially of the scale needed to fund a new car) will reduce your pension entitlement as its taken out of your pre tax earnings.

Absolutely right - I was thinking of silver status passes for Safeguarded staff. I only knew about the car thing because a previous boss of mine was crowing about it in the office when he got a band 2 role about 10 years ago.
