As the train is scheduled to run non stop between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield, I don’t suppose it makes much, if any difference to the public timetable, shame it doesn’t stop at Stockport like all the other fast trains though.1L20 via Stockport again tonight, not surprisingly, I'll look for the timetable to be updated to reflect this in due course!
I presume that the 4 minute gap in trains at New Mills South Junction is too tight to allow the 2141 Manchester to Nottingham to call at Stockport?Although I imagine 1L20 will have been travelling via Stockport ever since the second day of the new timetable, I thought I'd observe that it's booked in the working timetable to go via Stockport (without calling) from 21 June (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C95389/2021-06-21/detailed). UFL out of Piccadilly, then USL at Slade Lane Junction; it passes New Mills South Junction at 22:03 from where it can be followed by 2S38 at 22:07 (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L09711/2021-06-21/detailed) which can wait for it there on the Up Romiley.
EDIT 2K14 21:43 Manchester-Stoke (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L08562/2021-06-14/detailed) is adjusted to be 2K14 21:44 Manchester-Stoke (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L08562/2021-06-21/detailed) to allow the timetable revision - presumably 3 minute headways on the UFL out of Piccadilly. 2K14 just has 1 minute of pathing allowance removed from its old timetable so is still booked to arrive and depart at/from Stockport at 21:55/21:57 as before.
My feeling is that, because it's not currently advertised to call at Stockport, the preference is to continue with this in case something happens in future (such as converting the Up Goods Loop at New Mills South Junction to passenger use) which then allows the service to revert to its formerly-timetabled route.I presume that the 4 minute gap in trains at New Mills South Junction is too tight to allow the 2141 Manchester to Nottingham to call at Stockport?
A very good point, and this is what seems to have been implemented.Could a solution be for the new 1L41 21:41 Manchester Piccadilly to Nottingham operate via Stockport hence being able to get in front of the stopper across the Hope Valley; and 5L54, 21:59 Liverpool Lime Street to Nottingham ECS which currently runs via Stockport operate via Marple for driver route retention?
Shame that the 2159 ECS Liverpool to Nottingham doesn’t run in service, even if it only calls at limited stations such as Warrington, Oxford Road, Piccadilly, Chesterfield, Nottingham. My feeling is that, because it's not currently advertised to call at Stockport, the preference is to continue with this in case something happens in future (such as converting the Up Goods Loop at New Mills South Junction to passenger use) which then allows the service to revert to its formerly-timetabled route.
EDIT In the past I'd have said that it would be inconvenient to update the public timetable to show the additional stop, but given that the 21:43 departure from Piccadilly changes in the public timetable as well as the working timetable to 21:44 from 21 June, this no longer seems to be a major impediment to making changes. Of course, this particular change is trivial, but it's interesting that it's not implemented as a 21p44 departure in the working timetable, which would need no change to the public departure time (EDIT per abbreviations in the working timetable noted in the attachment).

5L54 currently goes via Stockport as you say until June 18th. according to the timetable (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C18953/2021-06-18/detailed) and in fact (last night, Friday 4 June anyway) (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C18953/2021-06-04/detailed)
From June 21st. it's rerouted via Romiley and Marple (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C18953/2021-06-21/detailed)
I haven't got the exact timings to hand but I suspect a 1 minute call at Stockport would probably fit in, given there are 2 minutes of pathing between Hazel Grove H.L. Jn and New Mills South Jn.I presume that the 4 minute gap in trains at New Mills South Junction is too tight to allow the 2141 Manchester to Nottingham to call at Stockport?
