Why is there no first class lounge at Temple Meads?
I thought being a major station on the Western it would have had one...

It did have one but I think it was underused.

And Peterborough

Does anyone know if there will be one when the remodelled station opens?

Peterborough remodelling? The revamped foyer has opened, it's not too bad, but there's no lounge and still a lot of work going on with the platforms... fwp

Is it likely that Reading will get a lounge ,bearing in mind all the longer distanse XC services to Manchester/Newcastle ,and FGW to Penzance???

Temple Meads used to have a First class lounge on platforms 9 and 11 (see the windows in this photo). Given that most trains to Paddington arrive and depart from platforms 13 and 15, and for most of the trains start from Temple Meads so are ready for boarding earlier, they probably felt there was no purpose in maintaining this small lounge which was always very quiet. There's probably little incentive for Great Western in providing a lounge for CrossCountry customers too. Furthermore; very few Great Western HSTs or CrossCountry trains use this island anyway, so it was a bit out the way!

Sheffield has a similar set-up (2 trains per hour to London, both terminating/starting there) but does have a FC lounge on platforms 2/5. It's not clear from their website whether passengers with First Class tickets for other TOCs (ie CrossCountry and TPE) can use it.

The numbers using it were tiny (I did see them at the time of closing, they were on an internal memo), especially when compared to the usage at Cardiff.
