Thanks in advance for help

I have a complimentary northern return ticket

Debating a few days in Scarborough and wondered if this is entirely doable with only using Northern trains

Can get to Leeds via Wigan so presume there is either northern option to York then Scarborough or Northern to Hull then up coast

any options and maybe a different routing on way home?

any other ideas for a few days away with said ticket also welcome !

Whichever way you go, it's likely to involve multiple changes and extended journey times. To get to Scarborough using Northern services only, you'll obviously have to travel via Hull. So, from Prescot, how about out via Wigan NW / Preston / Blackburn / Leeds / Hull & then return via Hull / Sheffield / Manchester Picc?

@Urban-Savage. Depends when you're travelling, but the midweek service pattern will likely be...

Leeds - Hull with Northern is typically hourly.

Hull - Scarborough (via Bridlington) with Northern is also hourly.

York - Hull is hourly. Most Northern trains then continue to / terminate at Bridlington.

Leeds - York. Typically four Northern trains per hour, although some do go the long way round via Harrogate.

Obviously, no Northern trains from York direct to Scarborough (via Malton).

Have a look at BR Times website for further basic info. www.brtimes.com. Certain journey planners should also enable you to select Northern's train services only.

Transdev Coastliner 843 bus will take you between Scarborough and York (and Leeds), and Arriva X93 will take you between Scarborough and Whitby and Middlesbrough to join up your Northern rail routes for £2 per journey.

The latter would be better if you had two complimentary Northern singles.

Whitby to Prescot on Northern via Carlisle and Barrow/Hellifield is one heck of a trip (in both senses - a good ride and a long way!).
