10/12/20 3Z01 Newton Heath TMD - Heaton T&RSMD (4X 142)

11/12/20 3Z01 Newton Heath TMD - Heaton T&RSMD (4X 142)

12/12/20 3Z01 Newton Heath TMD - Heaton T&RSMD (3X 142)

1. Does this mean 142s are finishing earlier because Saturday 12th December is the last day of booked workings so surely the ecs moves must be after 12th December because Saturdays alone still sees x4 142 in use?

2. Does this mean as the last week in December timetable goes on 142s will gradually get whittled away?

Would be more understandable had it all been booked in for week after though.

Sad to say that ex-Northern 142012 and 142079 bit the dust last month. Having been used by TfW for component recovery the two Pacers went by road from Landore to Wye Valley Metals in Hereford for scrapping on 5/10/20
Atm I’m not sure what’s happened with 142086 but I am assuming that it is still at Landore. However this month’s issue of Today’s Railways UK confirmed that the other two went for scrap last month

Went to scrappy in Hereford back in August. It was at Canton unlike the other two and not Landore. Social Media source so may not be 100% correct

Apologies if this has been stated, with increase in carriages due to help social distancing will 142s continue to be in service throughout December? The timetable change is also not meant to happen.

I don't see why some Pacer can't be in service next year, coupled to a 15 series, if only for the reason you suggested.

Ah I didn’t know 086 went for the chop in August. Think someone will need to update the current Pacer list to confirm the three going to Wye Valley Metals in Hereford for scrapping. Tbf I’m surprised that they didn’t go to Sims Metals Newport but suppose they are busy scrapping the redundant LO 315s as well as many more HST carriages.

Where they go to would be the choice of the ROSCO

Does anybody know the whereabouts of 144006/008/014/015/020 & 023 ?
006 is preserved alongside 007 at Gobowen. Half of 008 (55831) is now at Corby Model Railway Society, the other half is at Worksop. 014 and 023 are at Gascoigne Wood. Not sure about the other two, but possibly in store at Doncaster?

I think I have the 142 and 144 classes as up to date as possible but if you, or anyone else spots anything that needs changing then feel free to let me know :)
A quick flick through and the 144’s certainly aren’t. Many are still shown as “keighley station”

Went past Gascoigne Wood this dinner time. 144014 and 144023 are there, along with a 2 car - so either 6 or 8. Along with a solitary 142.
As has already been mentioned upthread...

... the 2 car can't be 006 or 008 as they are already spoken for elsewhere, likewise several others, my memory escapes me as to which.

Shameless plugging but you can try https://www.ukraillog.co.uk/139-144 and seek out the relevant class.

142004/18/58/65/70/71/87/90 and 94 are all currently allocated to Newton Heath working Northern services between Manchester and Kirkby/Rochdale/Chester and New Mills Central Monday to Saturday for the next few weeks should you wish to change their current status.

Really appreciate that info Norman. I've just updated the relevant detail.

I also have 142023 as working out of Newton Heath and 142095 as still being part of the Northern fleet but stored at Heaton. Can anyone confirm the current situation with either of these please?

142078 is working out off newton Heath was on the Kirkby to Manchester Victoria diagrams yesterday Saturday the 14th November 2020.

142095 is at Heaton T&R.S.M.D Depot, However has been used for spares to keep rest off fleet running according to the Facebook pacer forums. 142023 is also at Heaton T&R.S.M.D Depot as far as I am aware.

Because 142095 and 142023 was the only two that never departed from Heaton T&R.S.M.D Depot to newton Heath for the July and September timetable changes respectively.

142068 was originally at Wigan Depot as the staff taxi. Any information further on 142068 whether it is at Wigan or at Blackburn king Street ie warm store would be great.

However 142078 as mentioned earlier on in this post is also in service at newton Heath T.M.D.

I believe 023 and 095 are both stored at Heaton, 068 is currently stored at Wigan Wallgate CS.

142023 is at heaton T&R.S.M.D as been since around the middle off December last year 2019. When its final workings was around the Wednesday the 04th December 2019. Partnered up with 142096 on the Leeds to Sheffield via castleford services. On the same day 142001 and 142061 was on southport to leeds via Calder valley and brighouse. Not bad 142001 and 142096 for haulage on the same day, on two different services just before they where withdrawn and such a nice end at the time as well. Wish it was the same again this year.

These paths do not exist in the Network Rail system nor have been planned, at least not yet.

Do we know if 142023 is still destined for preservation down at the Plym Valley railway??

Cheers

Also this week especially the last couple of days on Thursday 18th November 2020 and Friday 19th November 2020 have seen at least two 142 diagrams with the 142 no longer on it, especially on Kirkby/New Mills Central workings and the peak am Manchester Victoria to Wigan diagram on both days

Maybe a chance that the northern 142s are now being stored awaiting withdrawal.

At least one Chester via Altrincham diagram still involves Pacers as of this week.

Why can't the 08:08 Piccadilly to Chester have Pacer on it? It's only booked 2-car which is hopeless for social distancing. The 13:49 Piccadilly to Sheffield needs it if anything even more desperately given that there is neither a fast TPE nor a fast EMR between 12:44 and 14:18.
