Hi all, I will be in Lincoln next week and was wondering if anyone could tell me which Northern DMU classes are most common on services to Lincoln? Would be nice to catch a Pacer as I have only ever been on one once!

Thanks

one service an hour to lincoln from sheffield (usually a through train from adwick or scunthorpe) Almost antirely pacer run, some days one 150 is operated but if you spent two hours at lincoln youd be 99.9% to get a northern pacer most likely 2. If you really want to ride pacers try sheffield at least every other train is one.

Or going further afield Middlesbrough's Bishop Auckland to Saltburn line. I've used it god knows how many times and I've had 142's every time apart from two when it was a 156.

Watch out; there is one 153 on the Scunthorpe - Lincoln - Adwick - Sheffield - Scunthorpe duties most days (it is usually the units that worked the Barton branch the previous day IIRC)

Ahhh 153's is what I am trying to avoid, I figure that I will see enough EMT 153's, thanks for the heads up and i'll try to avoid it! :)

It cant be often that there is someone looking for Pacers

In my experience the 0941 ex-Sheffield, into Lincoln at 1105, then out on the 1127 is the most likely diagram for a 153 to turn up on. This may have changed by now though - this is just from personal experience. The 1627 ex-Lincoln also used to get a 158 (as it ran through to Hull), but the last time I used it, this had been changed to a 142. The 1720 (terminates at Sheffield) also used to be a regular 153 run.

This often seems to be a 144. I believe it works the 2220 back to Sheffield too as this is normally a pacer.

Trentside is correct, that is still the current diagram for the Northern 153 to Lincoln. The rest is just solid 142s/144s throughout the day really, with a very small chance of a 150 turning up if there's been one knocking around in Sheffield.

Sundays however... it's not uncommon for 158s to appear.

I've had the pleasure of that on one or two occasions. The extra capacity tends to be welcome, especially on the 1515 from Lincoln. Being the first train of the day, it tends to be quite busy - often students with large amounts of luggage!

Seems equally as likely that a 142 or 144 appears though. I did once have the "pleasure" of a 3-car 144 unit on a Sunday, which must count as a very rare working. I re-call seeing this only once before, and that was when Northern Spirit were still around....

I used to use the line regularly 2008/9ish - back then it was normally a 142 or 2-car 144, but I also had a 3-car 144, a 158, 2x153 and a 158+153 train!

That'll be the 0810 from Scunthorpe, formed by the previous day's Barton unit working ECS from Cleethorpes. Barring a set swap at Sheffield, that's definitely a winner for a 153.
