For me one of the strangest services was Eastern Scottish 27 Edinburgh to Glasgow via Shotts. Always a strange service as no one East of Harthill would use this service to go to Glasgow, you were quicker waiting another 30 mins for the 35 via Bellshill to get to Glasgow. It really was 2 services linked into 1

That route rings a bell for me. Which route did it take out of Glasgow? I remember as a kid visiting relatives in Baillieston and returning to my Gran's in Coatbridge on Eastern services. Is my recollection of catching "the Edinburgh bus" or avoiding it?

It went from Buchanan St Bus Station, used it once in the 70,s just out of curiosity. Boarded it in Whitburn and by Harthill I was the only passenger after that it picked up again. What I remember of the journey is sitting upstairs at the front on an FLF ( it was the middle of February), it was a CAF Brown FLF and steam was gushing from the vents as it appeared to be over heating

Central SMT ran Glasgow - Peebles in the early 70s to my knowledge, I can't remember how often but don't think just weekend. Later, I remember it being cut back to Lanark at the western end to make use of the train to Glasgow.

The Central historic site gives this for the 242: Glasgow - Peebles journey time in 1960 was 2¾ hours; the fare was 6s 4d (32p) single, 10s 7d (53p) return.

Was there a Mckindless 68? Seem to remember getting on it a few times at Caledonian Road in Wishaw but I only ever saw it at around 5pm. It was the same route from there to newmains that the 267 did.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I recall McKindless running the 80 between Buchanan Bus Station and Harestanes in Kirkintilloch with double deckers.

This was not long after First Glasgow launched their Overground concept. FG's 88 also ran between the same start and end points, but ran via Lowhill Road, HMP Low Moss, and Gallowhill Road between Strathkelvin Retail Park and Kirkintilloch town centre. The McKindless 80 ran direct along the A803 between Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch town centre.

I don't know if McKindless ever introduced any more routes in other parts of Lanarkshire as a response to First Glasgow's Overground concept.

They ran alongside the 267 too. Cant recall any other routes.
