Pilkington Bus of Accrington are holding a farewell running day to the Olympian.

Wednesday 28th December will see up to 8 different Olympians from the Pilkingtonbus fleet operate the Clitheroe to Accrington 15 service. Special £6.50 day ticket.

Vehicles to be included, subject to availability etc, are:

M231 VSX
DXZ 5956
R144 EVX
E328 MSG
E329 MSG
G306 UYK
M703 HPF

Allocation of Olympians for the running day tomorrow are as follows

The rest on 15s Accrington to Clitheroe

Good indictment of the Leyland strain of Olympian that such a number remain in use after over 25 years. They were always an excellent and rather under-rated bus, and in their later years an ideal purchase for the small operator.

If I recall correctly, the Olympian was actually a derivative of the Bristol VRT and I believe initial chassis were actually built in Bristol.

A nice little event, managed to ride on all 8 Olympians that were out, a couple of pics are attached.

If I recall correctly, the Olympian was actually a derivative of the Bristol VRT and I believe initial chassis were actually built in Bristol.

It used a lot of knowledge from the Titan as well. The first 995 chassis were Bristol built.
