I was just wondering if anyone knew why there are pink Oyster validators at Rayner's Lane. AFAIK there is only an interchange between Met and Picc at that station.

I spotted them when I was in London last time. I touched it when going eastbound and avoiding zone 1 yet I was charged the same fare when not touching it despite going through Baker Street. On both occasions it was the railcard discounted Z2-6 fare (90p)

It is, but the two lines combine and diverge there.

It would be useful for journeys such as Earls Court to Harrow on the Hill (Picc to Rayners Lane and Met to Harrow on the Hill). The ''default'' fare is via Zone 1, priced at £4.10/£2.70, but travelling via Rayners Lane means you can pay the Zone 2-5 fare of £2.50/£1.40.

If you input journeys into the Single Fare finder and click on the ''Alternative fares'' button, where appropriate it tells you where you need to touch on a pink reader.
