Right, I've just booked a weekend away in France and Belgium, travelling by Eurostar from St. Pancras. I need to get there from Kemsley, and I understand I need to book a special ticket with a destination of "London International" in order to be covered for any delays. How exactly do I buy this, as I can't get any booking engine to recognise this destination.

if you use www.seat61.com there's a link to raileasy on which you can book the ticket, however I have always found E* domestic sales to be the easiest

No, it can't be done online AFAIK (unless a through booking is made with Eurostar in the first place). It's a walk-on ticket so no need to do it until nearer the time as you say. The price is £27.00 return (return within 2 months) and includes underground transfer if required.

Would it have been easier to get a Javelin train from Sittingbourne to Ebbsfleet and catch the Eurostar from Ebbsfleet rather than go into London..?
Yeah, but St. Pancras has shops and everything to look in between journeys, where there is absolutely nothing at Ebbsfleet. Also, I get a slightly longer journey on the Eurostar, which I've never been on before. It's the same price, and the same train from here, whatever, anyway.
It's worth noting that such tickets bought from Eurostar (usually at the same time as booking the Eurostar ticket) are generally issued to "LNDON ESTAR CIV" instead of "LONDON INTL(CIV)" and tend to be cheaper as well.
This doesn't appear to be the case for Kemsley, however.

I have just bought some tickets from Potters Bar to London Eurostar CIV using the FGW site, and they are coming 1st class post for no exra cost.
I had to do 2 singles as a return was not available and Gold card discounts are not available - though the outward journey will be in the weekday morning peak anyway and the £4 single coming back on a Saturday is only 5p more than the Gold card discounted FCC super-off peak single from Kings cross.
Looks like other railcard discounts are available though.

Booked tickets via Eurostar Domestic Sales from Cambridge [CBG] to Lndon Estar CIV [LOE] the other day. The lady at the call centre was very helpful. You pay buy credit/debit card and can pick them up at your local station as long as it has an enabled TVM. No problems.
I have checked the fares to LNDON ESTAR CIV [LOE] and there doesn't seem to be any single/return fares just travelcards? There does, however, seem to be fares to LONDON INTERNATIONAL CIV+ [LNE] priced at £13.55 for a EOS and £17.80 for a EVR with DSB railcard discount applied.
Sorry to highjack thread but as it is of a related query:-
I have recently picked up the tickets from CBG to LOE and have noted that the routing states any permitted without the "+" indicator to allow connecting travel by London Underground. Now, I may be wrong though, I thought that Cambrige to London was valid by two routes 1) via Royston & the ECM to London Kings Cross [KGX] and 2) via Bishops Stortford to London Liverpool Street [LST]. Although academic, as my friend will be travelling direct to KGX for the easy transfer to London St. Pancras International [STP], if 2) is a valid route why no "+" to allow tube travel from LST to STP?

Presumably they assume you'd want to take the fastest route.
I'm not sure its even possible for a ticket to and from London Terminals (which is what LOE essentially is) to have a Maltese Cross. That would essentially be a Zone U1* ticket.

I think the international/Eurostar destinations are an exception, because the tickets need to be valid to a specific destination that exists in only one location (St. Pancras) rather than a generic terminal. For example, searching Enfield Lock to London International gives fares with the maltese cross, as you'd expect because by far the most practical way from ENL to St. Pancras involves using the tube. The price is also closer to the price of an ENL to U1256 ticket than ENL to London Terminals.

In theory, all tickets to such "international" destinations would be encoded with the Maltese Cross so that underground transfer is included if needed, not that you have to use it.
Hrm...Odd. Just tried a Chiltern flow and they're showing up, even though tickets to London Eurostar (as opposed to London International) are only meant to be sold by Eurostar themselves.
Apparently, these tickets (for some inexplicable reason) aren't available from all stations; but I looked mine up on http://www.brfares.com/ and they are.
There used to be an agreement between Eurostar and Southeastern that meant Eurostar customers could travel for free to reach the Eurostar terminal; all they had to do was show their Eurostar ticket. I've no idea what happened to that.
