Hi

Firstly sorry if this thread is in the wrong place - I wasn’t quite sure where to put it.

I’ve just applied to renew my Disabled Railcard online as my current one runs out on the 10th May.

Just a few queries:

1. During the process I wasn’t asked anything about my disability/eligibility or for a photo. Is this ok or have I done something wrong? I’m hoping it means they are happy with what they already have on file as the website indicates I have had disabled railcards since 2008 (with some gaps). As I am visually impaired my disability is likely to remain permanent.

2. Due to print fading on my old Certificate Of Visual Impairment the hospital I am currently under as an outpatient for my eyes completed a new form last year as the previous one (which was issued by a different hospital) was so old it had become illegible. As I wasn’t asked for evidence I haven’t provided the new form when applying for my Railcard. Should I send it to them so they have upto date evidence? My registration hasn’t changed - I am still registered blind (or severely sight impaired as they now call it)

3. When I hopefully get my new plastic railcard do I need to ask for the relevant discount to be applied again to my Oyster card next time I go to London?

Many thanks for any help.

1&2. My guess (I have only just acquired my first one!) is that the renewal process assumes that your entitlement has not changed. I don't see any need to upload a replacement document.
3. But you do need (memo to self here) to re-add the discount to your Oyster.

I would say it's fine, as a renewal. In the same way someone renewing an age related railcard doesn't have to provide new proof of age.

This doesn't appear to be necessary.

Yes, the discount is set to expire at the same time as your railcard so it needs to be renewed as well.

This is normal. I get mine by dint of receiving PIP which can change (my disability would worsen or even improve), but I have never been asked to resubmit PIP paperwork.

No need to do this. They likely won’t ask.

My registration hasn’t changed - I am still registered blind (or severely sight impaired as they now call it)

3. When I hopefully get my new plastic railcard do I need to ask for the relevant discount to be applied again to my Oyster card next time I go to London?
Yes.
