Quickest route from Kings Cross to Paddington

If I have my trainers on, it's faster to run from KGX-PAD than go all the way down and up again on the tube. Whenever I have my bike with me I *always* cycle this connection! Most cross-London connections are reasonably easy on a bike...

Obviously no use if I'm lugging a suitcase!

My preference tends to be Thameslink + Elizabeth line as the trains I usually take tend to leave from plat 1!
I guess Thameslink is better if you're arriving at St Pancras off EMR as it's close by

London is actually very small. On foot, Paddington to Liv St on foot is about 50 minutes. Euston to Charing Cross about 35 minutes. Waterloo 40 odd. If you’re fit.

You can’t beat deep level tube journey times but the yellow line? It’s a snail.

London isn't 'very small'. Google says it's a 4.6 mile walk from Paddington to Liverpool Street.
Realistically that's a 90 minute walk for a fast walker

No. It’s less than an hour. I did it repeatedly in 55 minutes during underground strikes.

But I am somebody many would struggle to walk with even as I near 70 years old.

Still, London isn't 'very small', and not many people, as you admit, would do it in less than an hour.
Google says 1 hour and 45 minutes to walk. I find that it takes me about two thirds of the time to walk somewhere Google thinks it will take, and I walk fairly briskly.
About 90 minutes for an average person I reckon.

I have teenaged kids who cannot walk as quickly as me so get that modern generations aren’t as quick as me in my late 60s but,

For the last 12 months my activity apps have me peaking at 4.7mph. I suspect I am slower than previous generations.

That doesn't mean other people would even come close to matching that. Some years ago I had to walk from Paddington to St Pancras and that took me around 50 minutes, and I am regarded by my friends as a fast walker.

Fair to say though that traffic and other pedestrians impact heavily on London walking times. It gets noticeably worse at weekends when commuters are replaced by visitors.

I admire your fitness and dedication. Google maps says KGX-PAD is 2.5 miles (4.1 km). I doubt there are that many people who can comfortably run 2.5 miles in less than the 20 minutes people are reporting you can do it on the tube. Especially as most of the route is along a horrendously busy road that has a fair few junctions where you'd need to wait to cross. (By way of comparison the NHS CouchTo5K app aims go get you to a reasonable level of running fitness: Able to do 5 km in half an hour if you complete the 9-week program.)
