My iphone tells me the Railcard app has been updated to version 2.0.0. No new features mentioned, just "bug fixes and code updates". Anyone used it yet? I try and avoid using the early versions of anything until it's stable!
Current version 1.6.1

Seems faster for me as well on the new version - no noticeable delay when opening my railcard when the phone is either on or off line.

Looks like the old one will stop working on 6 June. That's quite short notice for such an important app which people expect to work offline.
We’ve recently made an essential security update to our app

If your app hasn’t updated to version 2.0.0 already, please make sure you update to the latest version of the app before Thursday 6 June to continue using your digital Railcard. After that date, if you don’t have the latest version of the app, you won’t be able to display your digital Railcard.

If you’re using Railcard discounted tickets, please make sure you have access to your Railcard before you travel.

That is short notice! Interesting that they mention an essential security update - they didn't describe it as essential in the app store writeup:

There’s currently an issue with this version to do with the barcode that appears on the Railcard, which is causing difficulty with scanning.

They are currently working on a fix so that will cause another update to customers apps.

I am more and more glad every day that I don't have a digital Railcard. I have no problem with e-tickets but I am firmly against (what is essentially) an m-ticket from an app that has proven itself unreliable and constantly requiring updates, live internet connections etc.

Good news, you don't have to buy it from RDG!

Interesting, I know there are some oddities in their barcodes that have been there a very long time, but sounds interesting they've found something that means they have to push an update (can't fix it remotely) and force users across so quickly

(I think I misread the post in hindsight, and 2.0.0 has a bug that needs fixing, rather than a barcode fix is why the update to 2.0.0 is being forced)

Many of the same restrictions and issues persist with other digital Railcard implementations due to ill-considered RDG accreditation standards.

Did the previous version support older versions of iOS than v13? It still allows compatibility with the iPhone 6s so anything from 2015 onwards will work.

Sounds like a professionally developed and fully tested app doesn't it ;).

The new version of the Railcard app defaults to showing an expired Railcard, for me.
I was travelling on Thursday and got my Railcard ready on the platform, saw it was expired, panicked and bought a new one, only to discover I've got six weeks left on my old one, and the expired one expired more than a year ago.

Every time I start the app it defaults to this expired one and I have to swipe to get the current one.

I also don't see why I need a photo for a digital Network Railcard, when a photocard isn't needed for the paper/plastic version.

I'm like you, don't mind using e-tickets but don't like the digital Railcard.

The only way I would switch to a digital Network Railcard, was if there was a small financial incentive to do so. For example, if the price was £26 a year for digital Vs £30 for paper/plastic version.

I also can't use my growing number of Rail Travel Vouchers obtained through Delay Repay on a digital railcard, however I believe I can on a paper version obtained from a ticket office.

To be fair, I haven't heard good things about TrainPal.
The site is too 'gimmicky'.

'Spin the wheel' for an offer, only to find you have to refer 20 people to get that offer. An utter con.

There is a little bin in the top RH corner of your expired railcard.

Click that and the problem goes away.
After some of the examples posted on here about requests to prove you had a railcard 5 years ago as part of a ticket investigation, I can see why you might want to keep expired railcards in the app.

You can see your previous railcards in your account on the railcards website.

Despite promises to the contrary, even on the new version still it takes 30sec to load the Railcard when you have no data signal.
