Anther prime example was in the West Country, where an old established road haulage company had a yard that was gradually surrounded by (no doubt Prestigious) new housing, the Residents complained about the noise, (they probably couldn't hear themselves Think), and sure enough, the Authorities imposed so many restrictions and made it so difficult for them to operate that they eventually closed down. Was that fair? Should they have been expected to have a Duty of Care?

I love it when members of the public twist whistle boards the wrong way round to try and fool us drivers!

People along the reopened line from Stirling to Longannet made the same complaints. They tried, and failed, to have late night freight services stopped despite it being well known that the intention was to reopen the line.
QUOTE]

i worked on the recommissioning of that line. there was a load of new builds there and the buyers where told that the line would never reopen. only for the inevitable to happen and coal trains start belting by the back door 24/7.

aye, even the mollasses tanks to Menstrie hadn't run in nearly twenty years, and there'd been a lot o house building in Alloa, in Sitrling and in Clackmannanshire near the railway in the meantime. There really wasn't any expectation in the area that the line would ever reopen when I was growing up in the area.

(Incidentally, the Menstrie/Alva branch is now tarmacced over as far as Menstrie, though the bridge over the devon is still locked out of use, unsafe)

Residents between Epsom and ashtead kept stealing the whistle boards as they were fed up with the noise and network rail gave up replacing them. I always blow up still for the 2 xings down there-would prefer disturbing a few people who have bought houses next to a railway than risk mowing down a dog walker at lady Howard.

I often wonder how many of the residents who complain about railway noise in places like these also rely on the trains to get to work or to bring people to their businesses etc. Im also sure they would be the first to complain if someone they knew were run over as they didn't hear the train coming.

Not forgetting craddocks or green lane eh.

Had a woman run across in front of me on green lane crossing this morning after I had seen her and was giving a 2 tone warning, I then kept the low tone on all the way to the crossing, they aint getting me for anything if she tripped and ended up underneath the train. <D

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
as a resident very near to the affected area I have to say its fairly tipical of a percentage of the population and the counciler to have a moan about nout.
Years of a duzzon or more valentas, not a moan. I can only assume the extra work is more voyagers, but maybe somebody can confirm?
Theres certainly nowhere near the noise level mentioned and for the first and last time Im feeling sorry for EC HAVING THESE OLD BUSYBODYS pestering them for very little.

For info B and B here is cheeper than in town and the street parking is free making it very popular

il watch with interest but have to say that what they all seam to have missed is that in summer the famous XC toilet stench is noticeable when there being emptied. Proof that this street of mainly retired stick in the muds is just moaning for the hell of it.

Oh yes, buy a house near a railway depot because its cheaper than one further away (because of the noise) and then complain about the noise.

Massive electrification would partially solve this issue....

How about we ask everyone who complains to contribute to an electrification fund?
