Hello,

A contact will be making fairly frequent journeys between the above locations. Typically evening 1 BDM to SHF, then evening 4 or 5 SHF to BDM, then in approx 10-15 days time repeat.

Can anyone improve upon splitting Bedford-Derby and Derby-Sheffield? The passenger is happy to carry print-outs of documents/maps, if anyone can see anything particularly good to advise by PM.

Peak/off-peak/super off peak?
Could they get advance tickets?
Would they be willing to go via Nottingham and change-dont know if this would be cheaper but just exploring options!

Evening, so after any evening peak finishes. Direct trains preferred, and a preference to avoid advances where possible.

East Midlands Ranger, which includes Bedford- Sheffield, gives 7 days unlimited travel off peak over a very wide area for £98.00. There is a 3 in 7 days flexi version for about £75.00. The 3 in 7 works out at £25.00 per day, which works much cheaper than buying 3 x off peak returns at £46.90. Even cheaper still pro rata if you buy the 7 day version.

Seems a bit overkill for one return journey every couple of weeks?

It is £4.20 cheaper to split at East Mids Parkway, but only one train a day from Bedford calls there (1735 I think!). You don't have a season ticket that could help do you?

Also, a super off peak return route NOT VIA LONDON from Bedford to Sheffield is only £46.90-would that do it?

Sorry. Misread the original posting as the reader wanting to make several return journeys a week, when he only actually wants to make one return journey.

Do you mean the outward is in the evening on Day 1, then the return portion in the evening 3 or 4 days later?
