Trying to book tickets from Caersws to York on the monring of the 21st of Sept.
Red Spotted Hanky routes me Shrewsbury (change) - Manchester (change) - Leeds (change) - York, whereas if I book with TfW I get Birmingham New St (change) - York.
Both leaving on the 1015 train from Caersws and both offering the same fare.

Can any one explain why the different routes?

Returning on the morning of the 23rd and both route me via Birmingham.

The national rail enquires app gives me both options.

I presume it comes down to different planning engines giving different priorities to journey time verses change count. The Manchester route is faster but involves more changes.

Have you tried Trainsplit to see if you can get cheaper fares via Manchester?
