So Scotrail are starting service on Sunday with 380s, do they not have any 385s that can be used, I'd have though that bringing them in gradually would be better than a big bang when they're all available in March. That way is there are teething problems it's 1/8th of the service that is cancelled, not the whole thing?

Class 380s only, the 385s are still in the testing and mileage accumulation phase and only one unit (103) has so far arrived in Scotland with a complete interior. They are not yet signed off for passenger use, the NRAP Compatibility Certificate only permits unladen/tare test operation. Whether that will change before May remains to be seen.

Scotrail have also announced that First Class is temporarily suspended between Glasgow and Edinburgh until the new trains are fully in service.

Would not be suprised if both came north

If not possibly 3 car which would allow the 2 test units to return south to be fitted out.

Any word on the Germany pair coming through the tunnel or shipped over? Are these fitted out or are they same as the test pair in Scotland?

Nothing on twitter yet. I guess they are waiting until it reaches Waverley before releasing any publicity.

So I believe there will be two seven-car 380s in service from Monday, when will the next set be introduced? Or will we have to wait for the 385s?

only going to be the 2 x 7 car 380s. The routes that use and can only use 380s due to drivers not signing any other EMUs cant afford to lose anymore. There has already been political fall outs over the last 2 years due to Inverclyde services losing these 380 units to be replaced with more 314s. Imagine the media uproar if they took more 380s away from their core Strathclyde routes to pander to the E-G snobs?

385s in March for a full EMU service if driver training is completed on time. In the meantime enjoy the "Rolls Royce" 380s on the E-G when you can as they'll miss them once the 385s arrive with their "ironing board" seats, no hopper windows incase of aircon failure and less seats!

The 380s came into service today and will be used hourly between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Anyone if they are diagrammed in any services ? Off work on Tuesday and would like a ride on one , dont fancy waiting on one .

Plenty of 314s on Gourock line yesterday , i take it once North Berwick gets its 385s , the 380s will come back to Inverclyde ?

They depart on the hour off Edinburgh and Queen St respectively. I don't know if it applies to Monday to Saturday but this is for today.

Remember all the 314s will be gone from Scotrail in 2 years and currently the plan is for around half of them to be gone by next December. 385 delays may mean that not as many are scrapped in December 2018 as was originally planned but they aren't going to put 314s through the Interoperability upgrade for a short period so they will all be gone within 2 years.

They cannot introduce any until they have a substantial percentage of staff trained on them. By the time enough staff are trained, they will have enough units available to run a full service.

Tried the 380 to Edinburgh earlier , quieter than a 170 . A few people thought these were the 385s .

I notice in the Scotrail franchise agreement, there are 5 Class 170s with their leases due to expire on 31.03.2018. Does anyone know if enough 385s are on schedule to be ready for service come the end of March to cover the loss of DMUs?

16 units (8x4 car and 8x3 car) just for basic service, plus some spare. Think it was 21 units required to be delivered for full service to start

Thanks! Will the 385s be first used to completely change the E-G via Falkirk line to 385 operation first and then over to the Croy line or will they be introduced simultaneously? Have any test 385s run on the Croy line?

I think it's more likely we'll see 380s covering those 170 transfers, at least to begin with.
