Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

Are any HSTs still likely to survive until October 2026? If they have not been withdrawn before then, they will have been in service for 50 years.

I think the Scotrail ones might just about somehow…

Rail Adventure and the Midland Pullman will still be in service for sure!

I've just spotted a live catering trolley on an HST, in what seems like the first time in years.

This is my second trouble free journey on a Scotrail HST in the past week, on the Highland main line. Have appreciated the quiet & comfortable ride both times. Certainly better than sitting on a metal bar on the Highland Chieftain Azuma.

A 158 was subbed in for a 5 car HST today. They drop like flies at times.

222s being in service for December this year is pie in the sky stuff at this moment in time.

Trolleys are usually present on the Aberdeen runs between 9-5.

An HST also stood in on a 158 diagram from what I can tell.

And where on earth was it suggested the 222s would be in service this winter? The only date I'd read was from December 2026 but no later than December 2027.

What diagram?

I misread a post, 2026 is more realistic.

1H62,1H67. It was a test run for HA02. HA24 failed at Perth with loss of power and severe water ingress to one of the coaches.

HA02 appears to have covered the Elgin locals 1H62 and 1H67? Believe those are booked 158 usually?

It wasn't a dig at yourself, sorry if you took it that way. I meant more which media source had been suggesting this year.

But yes, 2026 seems more realistic.
Nah not at all.

Like everything in the railway. It's always very slow. Things can happen that could prevent the release of the 222s to ScotRail. We will see.

Having them all by 2027 may indeed be optimistic!
Experience tells me issues will likely crop up preventing all the units being in traffic by then. They will defo need set up for ScotRails method of work for a start if not already able to do so. EMR might not be able to release them all in time if they encounter issues with their new units for example. On paper it looks easy and a smooth process, but this is very rarely the case in the railway.

Managed to get I7C both ways today, no engine noise, window matches seat relatively comfortable seats. Just a shame the outside hasn’t been cleaned in sometime so view out of the windows isn’t as good as it should be

Frustratingly it also shows the perils of having a largely white based livery. I do really like the I7C livery, but maintaining it has always been something of an issue.

It's time to bring back some loco-hauled reinforcements - perhaps this time they can find room for them at Millerhill or Slateford instead of running empty to Motherwell and back. All a bit academic of course, there probably isn't any coaching stock, or money...
There are of course a number of Mark 5 coaches looking for a home. Not many Mark 4 or Mark 3s left looking for hone though. Plentiful supply of suitable locos too Assuming they have enough cash to pay for them.

The Jacobite stock and a 37 is available until early April.

None of those will be anywhere near ScotRail ever. And rightly so as well. They're utter crap.

Has anyone got info on how 43129 is progressing with its collision damage repairs?
It has been reported as having been returned to Haymarket for final return to service preparations.
