Yeo now announced by Northern reopening Tuesday and an announcement from BTP their officers will be present on Tuesday if the public wish to thank them and to show solidarity with station staff.

A plaque on the station would be appropriate. A memorial would likely be elsewhere.

There's a plaque relating to the IRA bombing at the Postbox which stood firm sounded by rubble after the bombing, so I imagine they'll do something similar to that. I realise the IRA bombing caused damage and some injuries and no fatalities.

It has frustrated me some of the selfishness and constant questions on Northern's Twitter about Vic reopening. It seems people fail to comprehend what actually happened at the station and why it's shut.

Someone was moaning they couldn't get pocket timetables from there and would have to go elsewhere. That irritated me!

National Rail said:
Huddersfield – Manchester Victoria: Trains will start and terminate at Stalybridge. Alternative train services run between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly. Passengers using Ashton-under-Lyne should use Metrolink services into and out of Manchester.
Leeds – Manchester Victoria: Trains will start and terminate at Rochdale. A replacement bus service will run between Rochdale and Manchester Piccadilly calling at all intermediate stations.

Any reason why Northern has terminated at Rochdale and Stalybridge for these rather than run via (what I think is) Miles Platting Jn chord and joining them up, and apologies if I haven't got the junction name correct.

Do you mean use the Brewery Curve ? And run Calder Valley services from Rochdale round to Stalybridge ? If so - what would be the point ?

I suppose some Calder Valley services might have been diverted via Brewery Curve to Manchester Piccadilly (via Ashburys /with a reversal), but I doubt that there would be enough available paths or route knowledge to go that way.

Now if only Miles Platting station still existed - there could have been much shorter distances for the rail-replacement buses........

And why should they so comprehend?

It was not readily apparent to me that the station and the concert venue were, to all intents and purposes, the same building.

When I first heard of the incident I imagined an NEC and Birmingham International station sort of proximity.

Although, from your comments, those complaining would seem to have some familiarity with the locus.

Oh, well.

Then they are not worth worrying about. If I was in charge of their Twitter feed (& had another job to go to) I would love to post 'We don't want you, we don't need you' <(
