A lot of the stations between Preston and Lime St. (the older one in particular) have the length for 6 coaches, if Network Rail would invest in upgrading the platforms. IIRC at Leyland the main line platforms will take 4 coaches along with the slow lines, but the station (along with some others) has a long length of platform that is overgrown and out of use. So the cost of upgrading these platforms to take 6 coaches should not cost that much?
